Seattle area investing $10B in wastewater infrastructure: Washington’s King Country plans to invest $10 billion in wastewater treatment and other measures in coming decade to reduce pollution in waterways and prepare for storms, which are likely to become more frequent and intense due to climate change. The Wastewater Treatment Division’s plans boosted in late March when EPA announced $194 million loan to support critical wastewater infrastructure updates. The first instalment is nearly $500 million low-interest loan package which aims to make the system more reliable and protect Puget Sound. New funding will help to reduce raw sewage pumps and provide seismic upgrades for Seattle’s West Point Treatment Plant. The facility treats millions of gallons of wastewater each day and receives stormwater and sewage from Seattle, Shoreline, North Lake Washington, northern areas of King County and southern parts of Snohomish County. As infrastructure ages, utility companies are faced with the need to increase rates to cover the costs of necessary upgrades and maintenance. This is currently being experienced by residents of St. Petersburg, Florida, where the city's aging infrastructure, combined with an increase in water and sewer costs, has resulted in proposed rate increases for the next few years. While some residents may view this as an unfair burden, it is important to recognize that the costs of maintaining essential infrastructure cannot be ignored and must be addressed in a timely and responsible manner. #largediameterpipe #stormwaterrehabilitation

Clean water infrastructure and sanitary wastewater systems are the vital arteries keeping our district’s voters and families healthy. WASDA members have been working tirelessly to keep Americans connected to reliable clean water and wastewater services in our district. We are on the frontlines of implementing the billions of dollars in underground construction work funded by the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and similar legislation and know first-hand how much more work still needs to be done. The most recent ASCE report card gives America’s Drinking Water infrastructure a C-, and Wastewater a D+, and both industry and government research forecast a trillion-dollar needs investment gap over the next 20 years. The EPA’s Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs) provide essential federal funding for these projects. Both programs have historically been very successful but have been limited by the size of the federal appropriation. Progress is being made, but Congress must continue to provide essential support to meet our goals, or risk them slipping even further away. Water systems across the country have to make difficult choices about which projects to fund every day and are counting on a robust federal appropriation. Please ask your colleagues to support full funding for the State Revolving Fund programs and help support our industry’s mission to provide clean water for American communities. Very interesting article. We are working on the infrastructure for the Annacis Waste Water tunnel which sits about 30m below the surface. Drilling a 70m shaft must add much more technical difficulty. Looks like there will be lots more tunneling in the region over the next 10 years.
Metro Vancouver’s ambitious and costly plans to replace aging water infrastructure are in the works. With various renewal, expansion and seismic upgrade water distribution systems planned to serve BC's future population growth. #waterinfrastructure #infrastructure #watertreatment #wastewater
Big dig: Metro Vancouver’s ambitious — and costly — plans to replace aging water infrastructure

WASTEFUL water in wastewater! $100 billion is enough to wipe out all the medical debt in the United States. Or provide permanent shelter for every homeless person in America. More than two and a half million times what the average American worker makes in a year. Yet we spend right about that much each year treating inflow and infiltration into our sewer systems. The American Society of Civil Engineers estimates that inflow and infiltration cost cities in the United States around $100 billion annually. #alchatek #groutgeek #chemicalgrout #waterproofing #crackrepair #polyurethane #leakseal #curtainwall #concreterepair #potablewater #injection #leakrepair #infrastructure #infiltration #taxes #sewerrepair https://lnkd.in/g7Y2t-TY.

Water and sewer systems built in the mid-19th century weren't meant to handle the demands of modern cities, and many bridges and levees have aged well past their intended lifespan. Water systems are in trouble. Both those that protect us from water as a hazard (stormwater, dams, levees, bridges) and those that help us manage water as a resource (drinking water, wastewater, inland waterways) are in grim shape. WSG & Solutions, Inc., has been providing headworks, grit removal and stormwater product solutions to our global customer base for over 16 years. Through new technology and infrastructure renewal projects, we are helping America tackle some of the toughest water infrastructure challenges.
