Also in Switzerland Geothermal energy is growing. Let’s go in Italy where the geology is prone to this renewable energy
30 years ago, in 1993, the first deep geothermal well (DGW) Thônex-1 was drilled in the Canton of Geneva. It was not an economic success. Since then many other DGWs were drilled in Switzerland. Despite the lukewarm results they demonstrated the potential of geothermal energy in the country and the need for ensuring a continued effort in exploration activities. Last Wednesday I had the honour to deliver a talk at the Geneva Energy Forum (GEF) where I offered my views on the lessons we learnt in 30 years of Geothermal E&P in Switzerland. Will the Swiss industry and regulatory agencies learn from these past experiences ? Will these lessons learnt be taken into account ? Only the future will tell. Please visit the GEF website (https://geforum.ch/) and join the forum for interesting and thought-provoking discussions on all energy matters.

Need a crash course on the current state of geothermal power in Taiwan and the projects on the pipeline? 👀 Po-Keng Lin, Vice General Manager of geothermal power developer Fabulous Power very kindly took the time to tell us about the operating and future geothermal power plants in Taiwan. The total geothermal power capacity in Taiwan is still small, but it is growing steadily with policy support and smart use of appropriate technologies. #Taiwan #TIGC2024 #geothermal #geothermalnews

#snsinstitutions #snsdesignthinkers #designthinking BINARY CYCLE SYSTEM It is believed that the first binary cycle geothermal power plant was constructed at Ischia, Italy, between 1940 and 1943. It is believed that the plant operated at an effective capacity of 250 kW using ethylene chloride as the working fluid. However, not much is known about this specific installation because it occurred during the Second World War. In 1967, a second binary cycle geothermal power station near Petropavlovsk on Russia's Kamchatka peninsula came online. It demonstrated the viability of binary cycle geothermal power plants, with a rating of 670 kW and an operating lifetime of unspecified years. In 15 different countries as of December 2014, there were 203 binary cycle geothermal power facilities, or 35% of all geothermal

The International Geothermal Association, thru Chairman Sylvain Brogle, has signed a cooperation agreement ✍ with the Henan Province of the NGEC to promote and support geothermal development ♨ in Henan County in China. According to the agreement, the two parties will carry out in-depth cooperation based on the memorandum of cooperation, focusing on professional talent training 👨🔬, promotion and application of new technologies ⚙, project investment and equipment introduction, international exchanges to explore new ideas 💡 and methods for the development and utilization of geothermal energy, and to promote Henan’s geothermal industry. 🙌 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gpbeVErd #China #Geothermal #GeothermalDevelopment #SustainableEnergy

Fantastic results from FORGE. Stimulating a lateral length 3-8x shorter than a commercial scale project, they got rates about 3x less than the target commercial rates. This extrapolates to outperform the best ‘reach’ goals we’ve ever had for EGS. Alongside Fervo’s Project Red, multistage fracturing for EGS is now two for two- in both projects, it has achieved radically improved performance. Why does this matter? The geothermal resource is huge, except we’ve never been able to produce at economic rates. These projects show that we now can. At the same time, FORGE and Fervo are achieveing outstanding reductions in drilling cost for geothermal well. Barriers to a huge increase in geothermal production are falling away.
The Utah Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE) at the University of Utah has successfully stimulated wells 16A(78)-32 (injection) and 16B(78)-32 (production). A 9-hour circulation test that followed stimulation proved fluid flow and energy transfer from an Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) reservoir in hot dry granite – a major breakthrough for the industry. New Study to Assess Geothermal Potential Across Whole of Singapore Summary: The Energy Market Authority (EMA) of Singapore has released a Request for Proposal (RFP) to conduct a comprehensive, non-invasive geophysical study assessing the country's geothermal resource potential for power generation. This initiative expands on earlier localized studies in northern and eastern Singapore that suggested the area could possess significant underground heat resources. The study aims to explore alternative renewable energy sources, given Singapore's limited options and its reliance on energy imports. The research will not only evaluate the viability of geothermal energy but also identify potential sites for geothermal power plants. Additionally, the data collected will help assess opportunities for subsurface geologic carbon sequestration, supporting Singapore's commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050. #SingaporeEnergy #Singapore #Energy #Geothermal #GeothermalPotential #RenewableEnergy #NetZero2050 #EMASingapore
