In a world striving for sustainable progress, GE Vernova's #OffshoreWind business has taken a bold step forward with the ReaLCoE initiative. This isn't just about advancing technology; it's about reshaping the future of energy, economy, and employment. 🌍💡
The #EU's leadership in this arena is commendable and essential. By focusing on affordability and competitiveness, they are setting a new standard for what's possible in the renewable energy sector. Yet, the conversation doesn't end here. It's about more than just harnessing the wind; it's about building a sustainable future in every sense of the word.
🌱 With a commitment to workforce development and job creation, GE Vernova and its partners are not just building wind turbines; they're building careers and communities. This initiative is a testament to collective action's power in driving significant change.
💼 But let's talk business. The development of a 15+MW WEC platform is not just an engineering feat; it's a strategic move that could redefine market dynamics. The potential economic impact of making WindEnergy more accessible and efficient could be a game-changer for countless industries.
As we stand at this crossroads, it's clear that initiatives like ReaLCoE are more than just projects; they are beacons of hope. They show us that with the right mix of innovation, collaboration, and vision, we can achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental stewardship.
🔍 This begs the question: How can other industries draw inspiration from this approach? How can we, as professionals across various sectors contribute to a future where economic and environmental goals are not at odds but in harmony?

Since we launched veerEarth, our growing userbase has been surprised by three key features of the interface:
1. Low cost.
Stakeholders are surprised at how inexpensive it is to request customized WRF simulations. For a couple hundred dollars, you can get full year simulations containing several thousand grid cells.
2. Comprehensive deliverables.
Unlike other data providers in this space, we provide unlimited timeseries data from the domain as well as wind resource grid (WRG) files.
3. Speed
We offer next-day delivery turnaround for these full-year simulations.
In all, these characteristics are changing the game of numerical weather prediction and are empowering stakeholders to execute fast and inexpensive analyses across the ever-increasing size of global wind energy areas.
Check out the interface here and launch your first run: https://earth.veer.eco
🚀 Can you believe how far we’ve come?
Since 2020, when Windfloat Atlantic connected to the grid, it has achieved a whopping 222 GWh of cumulative production! Going above and beyond, it continues to exceed expectations with 5% more energy than initially projected.
Sited on semi-submersible foundations using Principle Power’s WindFloat® technology, the three turbines have generated enough electricity to power 60-65k homes and prevented 33k tons of CO2 emissions annually.
As we contemplate a new gigawatt scale era, the Windfloat Atlantic serves as a successful 25-year business case. And the proven track record of the WindPlus consortium, along with Principle Power’s continues effort to improve the technology, is enabling the growth of a promising industry!

📈 💗 Increasing the #projectvalue and improving the #customerexperience.
🎯 These are 2 central preocupations, throughout the MuWind Turbine development.
🤑 Large companies have access to #tools and #models, which private customers cannot afford.
😥 It is not fair and reduces the impact of #local initiative.
💡 That's why MuWind is working on making the project value creation clearer, to inform customers how they can get the most out of their #smallwindturbine.
📢 In the next few weeks, I'll share more about each lever, why they are relevant, and what can be done to evaluate their impact on the wind turbine.

There are a few constraints on turbine size from a technical point of view:
- Rotor's size: bigger rotors can place excessive loads on the foundation.
- Manufacturing: increasing the size of wind turbines also implies increasing the size of factories and tools, which means huge investments.
- Transport: transporting larger and heavier blades and nacelles by sea requires larger boats.
- Installation: the installation of a wind turbine at sea presupposes having a boat equipped with a crane capable of lifting huge blades and very heavy nacelles.

Offshore Wind 2024 was a great opportunity to catch up with developments in the sector and offered interesting and inspiring networking opportunities.
Three takeaways I took from the event were aspects that will be required to drive success forward.
1. Collaboration - this sounds like common sense but I have learnt in my time engaged in collaborative and Enterprise frameworks that without some common alignment around collaboration that passion and enthusiasm will only get you so far.
2. Accelerated delivery - this is a great ambition, to achieve this requires as much attention to the strategy and regulatory groundwork as it does the energy and commitment of the parties engaged in delivery. In addition standardisation will be key, reducing the need to start at square 1 must be an aspiration.
3. Diversity - it was great to see the recognition that diversity builds strength, the question is however how do we capitalise on diversity? We need to chase good practice from all sectors, we need to be inclusive of fresh approaches and thought processes. We need to accelerate our learning through sharing successesses and failures, this will be the true demonstration of diversity and inclusion.
I took much away from the event, the biggest thought I took away however was how convinced I was that I had been correct in putting myself forward for the Scottish Renewables Board. My experience both within the energy sector but also outside, focused on collaborative, accelerated and predictable programme delivery has given me much to offer the Board should I be so lucky to be elected.

This article may be coming out of the US but it is just as relevant for Australia. There is finally, a sensible shift in the wind industry chasing the biggest is best strategy! 🌬️ It's refreshing to see a focus on standardisation and optimisation over chasing the next big tech breakthrough. Prioritising mature, reliable technologies will streamline supply chains and enhance project execution, crucial for propelling Australia’s industry forward. #WindEnergy#Sustainability#Innovation

Power-to-X is a very essential tool to decarbonise all sectors that we will have very difficult to electrify. However, it is a not an easy task as many parameters needs to be considered to realise profitable projects. At Ramboll, in the last year, we have put a real focus to understand all this and to spread the word to the community.
In our recent study for the Danish Energy Agency (down in the comments), we show a cost-breakdown for different project sizes and different electrolysis technologies, but the same project scope. The different contributions vary depending on the technology what indicates the importance of finding the right match for the specifications of your Power-to-X project. For instance, there will be projects where pressurized solutions could be handy while others could profit of highly efficient solutions and overcome with this their OPEX challenges.
The good news is that all this knowledge allows us to find those lighthouse projects with the right OPEX and CAPEX conditions to make to work the business case and reach those FIDs (Final Investment Decisions) that we all want. And in addition to this, all this is going to become easier as more renewable energy will be installed (to have the right OPEX in more places around the world) and as H2 plant construction know-how will get more spread out.
