FYI - If you need to hire in the next few months, we're filling up fast. Our recruiting team is completely booked until the week of June 23rd. (Projects are coming in fast. If you'd talked to me last week, we could have started this week.) Here's a quick refresh of the typical timeline to hire: - 1 month to make your hire - 2 months for seniors or managers - 1 month resignation notice - May not be needed, but you don't want to assume that So, for example - If you were to get started on June 23rd, you could expect a bookkeeper to start on August 23rd. If you need someone in August or September, I suggest you get on our calendar in the next week or two. Especially since tax season in the US is over, accountants are ready to start hiring, and I expect to be booked out even further. You gotta know where Fiscal’s job begins and ends. I spoke with a finance director recently and she was drowning in work. As we started to deep dive into her workload the majority of her tasks were NOT fiscal related. I find that executive directors who want their fiscal operations managed in house want to be able to task these team members with all sorts of work that are not in scope. You’re not able to do that with an outsourced partner. The organization doesn’t win in the end. People end up quitting because they’re overworked, books haven’t been closed for months, other departments who depend on data from fiscal are left without what they need… it becomes a very chaotic environment. As your org grows you need to revisit your org chart and the needs of your organization. There needs to be clear roles and responsibilities and certain roles should never be lumped together. Fiscal is not a never ending job. There’s a clear scope that is determined by the nature of your organization’s work and funding. You’ll lose good people by pulling them in so many different directions.
