Bringing hardware products to market is a challenging process, whether for first generation or more mature products. New product introduction (NPI) within regulated industries like aerospace or automotive have further nuances, compounding the challenges that many hardware companies face. Although there is no one-size-fits-all approach to NPI, a broad emphasis on key themes can help maximize the success of a build, and furthermore the eventual launch of a product: ✍🏼 Highlighting the program management aspects of development pays dividends downstream ⚠️ Quickly prioritizing the highest impact issues helps de-risk overall program schedules 🛠️ Tying in manufacturing and operations earlier on in the process enables quicker validation of designs We chatted with the team at Motivo to dive into their design process and insights they’ve gained from pattern matching across different product design programs. Julius Klein and Kevin Bower highlight how there are actually more similarities than differences in successful product launches (even across different industries) and how design cycles can be accelerated through early, low-cost efforts.
