Creative Artists Agency (CAA) is rolling out "theCAAvault" 🎥 🤖 -A virtual media storage system for A-list talent to store digital assets (names, images, digital scans, voice recordings) that aims to protect celebrities' AI likenesses. -TheCAAvault allows celebrities to securely store, share, and monetize their digital doubles. This ensures rightful compensation for using digital likenesses, enhancing rather than reducing opportunities. -This initiative is a response to debates on AI cloning's impact on job opportunities and unauthorized use of deceased celebrities' likenesses. - "Frankly, our view has been that the law is going to take time to catch up, and so by the talent creating and owning their digital likeness with [theCAAvault]… there is now a legitimate way for companies to work with one of our clients"- CAA Head of Strategic Development, -This is occurring while Alphabet (Google) and Meta are negotiating with Hollywood studios to license content for AI video generation software.

Reasons I believe that AI will not replace creatives: 1. As cost of producing content decreases, the value of grabbing / holding consumer attention doesn't change. See advertising CPMs and entertainment platform revenues. 2. In the battle for limited human attention where all players have access to lower content creation costs, new competitive edges must be developed to stand out from the noise. These may be: #storytelling, #relatability, #humor, #promptdesign, collaborations w/ other creatives. 3. Consumers relationship to art is strongly tied to their relationship with the artist. You can see this most prominently in the music industry -- try asking a jewish fan of #KanyeWest if they still enjoy his music as much as they did 10 years ago. 4. Consumers may place a premium on "authentic" content, which will be labeled differently than AI-generated content per most platform policies [1] [2] [3]. 5. AI faces significant legal headwinds that limit it's economic potential w/o human creatives. US courts have ruled that "a work of art created by AI without any human input cannot be copyrighted under US law" [4], and there are many training data lawsuits that need to be played out. From Emmett Shear: "The future of making art favors taste over skill, and will continue to do so indefinitely until it is effectively 100% taste" [1] https://lnkd.in/gMTeEf-h [2] https://lnkd.in/g_qDyuQa [3] https://lnkd.in/g3v7miCZ [4] https://lnkd.in/gvxeGVy3 Pictured below is the Multiplane camera used by Disney to film Snow White in 1937, made obsolete in the 1980s by computer animation technology.

Toys "R" Us' AI-generated ad: A toy that nobody wants. In a misguided attempt to showcase the "creative potential" of AI, Toys "R" Us has unleashed a monstrous creation upon the advertising world. Their AI-generated ad, touted as a groundbreaking first, is a cringeworthy spectacle of stilted visuals and a snooze-worthy storyline. The ad's human creators share the blame, of course. A boring narrative and questionable artistic choices can't be solely pinned on the AI. But the end result is a commercial that's less heartwarming and more nightmare-inducing, a testament to the fact that technology alone can't replace good old-fashioned human creativity. While AI has its place in customer service and internal processes, it seems the creative industry can breathe a sigh of relief for now. As Toys "R" Us so aptly demonstrates, AI-generated ads are still more likely to elicit groans than gasps of admiration. So, let's raise a glass (of milk, perhaps?) to the continued relevance of human creativity. And let's hope that future AI-generated ads learn a thing or two from this toy-tastic train wreck. #AI #Advertising #Creativity #ToysRUs #Fail
You can’t only blame AI for that creepy Toys 'R' Us ad

Everyone’s talking about Sora, OpenAI’s text-to-video model. This, like little else since the launch of ChatGPT itself, seems to have people thinking the end is nigh. The end of what is unclear. Visceral reactions to a technological leap are understandable. But, taking a step back, the underlying principles are the same ones powering state-of-the-art text and static image generators. It’s just the conquering of this new, moving medium that has done people’s heads in. For now we should approach the coming AI-generated storm with the same level-headedness that’s served us for many millennia. And, seriously, no regulated industry like asset management or insurance is going to turn over its destiny to AI any day soon. Read more of our thoughts: https://lnkd.in/egnuMtWf

Co-host of The Next Wave Podcast with Matt Wolfe and HubSpot | Founder of Lore.com, The Techno-Optimist AI Newsletter | Investor & Entrepreneur
I've got an exciting announcement today. But first... a short story to give some background. Over this year, I've become fascinated with AI Video. I'm sure most of you already know that from all of my posts about AI videos, which have reached over 30M people. But what most of you don't know is I bought Lore because I was partnered with Barrie Osborne. Oscar-winning Producer of Lord of the Rings and The Matrix, two of my favorite films. It was my dream, so I went all in on it and spared no expense. We were introduced by a mutual friend. We spent over a year together on movie sets, attempting to create a new movie studio. It didn't work out because of COVID, so Barrie is no longer involved, tho we're still friends. But it was such a fantastic experience. I don't regret anything. I got to meet every department head on a Disney set and have them explain their jobs to me. I also got a VIP tour of WETA and could hold Aragorn's sword. Which later led to a bomb alert going off when I went to the Auckland airport. But that's a whole other story. It remains one of my life dreams to be involved in film production in one form or another. We're heading towards a new world where AI Video will change Hollywood. For the better. And I want to be involved. I'm putting myself out there to become a player and start something new, Lore Labs. https://labs.lore.com Lore Labs is an AI video agency that will help create videos for any use case you can imagine. Advertisements, short films, music videos, promotions for social media, and more. In the long term, we might also get involved in creating films as technology improves. ;) If you're interested, visit the site here and contact us. https://labs.lore.com Also, if you're interested in being on our roster of talent for potential client work and to be featured on the website + newsletter, please let me know! I'll also be looking for an operating partner soon. #ai #artificialintelligence #agency #aivideo #videoproduction

Adrian Elton: “But as the AI is fundamentally executional, it will still call upon those of us with creative discernment to develop materials which are fundamentally interesting." Isobelle (Iz) McGrath: “Ironic considering tighter deadlines and budgets have increased reliance on AI-powered tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney and soon SORA. If the era of mass-produced 'creativity' has dawned, a question lingers - can we truly be replaced? Maybe not?” Huei Yin Wong: "We’ll start to see doubling down on the anti-design, anti-polish trend. We’ll begin to embrace the chaos of humanity as AI generated videos get increasingly refined and polished." Tom Maynard: “It will create more pressure and create a more aggressive race to the bottom for creative services like editing, motion design, vfx and production in general." matt batten Leah Giselle Spadone Bob Connelly

Under Armour new AI-generated ad is creating a stir in the creative industry! Directed by Wesley Walker, using only previously recorded footage of Anthony Joshua that UA owns the rights to. The controversy stems from the fact that the original directors of the footage were neither aware of nor credited. AJ's image and voice were reproduced using AI. Some argue it's a great use of technology, while others are furious that AI is reducing the need for human talent and production. The conversation is getting heated. What do you think of all this? #generativeai #advertising #aivideo

Scarlett Johansson has sparked an interesting discussion about the use of AI in creative industries. OpenAI's new tool, Sora, showcased a voice similar to Scarlett's from the movie "Her," which has brought attention to the importance of protecting artists' intellectual property rights. Sora is OpenAI's text-to-video tool that generates high-quality videos from textual descriptions, offering new possibilities for filmmakers and content creators. This highlights the need for balancing innovative technology with respect for creative works. Intellectual property (IP) rights, such as copyrights and the right to publicity, are essential for protecting the unique creations and likenesses of artists. These rights ensure that creators can control and benefit from the use of their work, including their voices, images, and performances. Legal experts are discussing the right to publicity, which helps protect the use of a person's voice and likeness. It's a great reminder of past successes, like Bette Midler and Tom Waits, who stood up for their rights and made a difference. As Hollywood explores exciting AI tools for enhancing digital effects and streamlining production, it's crucial to have conversations about how we can respect and protect creative contributions. With companies like Fox using AI to recommend content on Tubi, the potential for collaboration between tech and entertainment is huge! Let’s embrace innovation while ensuring our amazing artists and creators feel valued and protected. What are your thoughts on Sora and how it might reshape the future of entertainment while respecting intellectual property rights? #IntellectualPropertyRights #AI #CreatorsRights #CopyrightProtection #ArtisticIntegrity #IPProtection #ProtectOriginalWorks #RightToPublicity #LegalPrecedents #IPInnovation #DigitalCopyright #CreativeOwnership #CreativeIndustries #Innovation #FutureOfEntertainment #DigitalRights #Sora #TechAndEntertainment

🎥 The Future of Advertising is Here - And It's AI-Powered! 🤖☕️ No CGI artists. No camera crew. No cast. No location scouting. No script writers. Not even a single coffee bean was harmed in the making of this ad! What did it take to create a 15-second coffee commercial? • A 500-character prompt • A few minutes of processing time • The power of AI That's it! I recently experimented with AI in ad film production, creating a short commercial for "Blue Toka" coffee. (You might read it as Blue Tokai Coffee Roasters , though they haven't sponsored this - it's just a happy coincidence!) The result? A professional-looking ad without the traditional production hassles or costs. No need for: • Expensive equipment • Location permits • Craft services • Post-production teams Just pure, distilled creativity powered by AI. This experiment showcases the potential of AI in revolutionising the advertising industry. We're looking at faster turnaround times, reduced costs, and the ability to iterate quickly on creative concepts. But don't worry, fellow creatives - this isn't about replacing human ingenuity. It's about augmenting our capabilities and freeing up time for even more innovative thinking. Curious to see the result? Check out the video What are your thoughts on AI in advertising?
