Main Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity takeaways for me: 1) Empowered! It was incredible to be part of WACL (Women in Advertising & Communications Leadership )‘s Empower Cafe, with major kudos to my colleagues Louise Watson who dreamed it up, organised it and staffed it alongside the WACL team and Susie Safavi 2) Sustainability Sidelined There’s lots of great thinking around how to get our industry to a better place on sustainability, but only if you know where to look. Thematically, it’s on the decline, which is understandable in the current economic climate but ultimately an oversight around what will drive long term growth. Shout out to those working hard to keep it in the conversation - Conscious Advertising Network and Good-Loop among many others! 3) Inspiration Sensation Advertising is bursting at the seams with highly intelligent, motivated and genuinely delightful people. From creating amazing work (I have to say I was struck mostly by the work of Mars Petcare as brought to life on several stages, including at GroupM Rooftop and Campaign UK panels - perhaps my bias as a pet owner) to making the industry better and safer for all - Social Element, Outvertising and many more. And of course those working at creating ever improving technology solutions and experiences for customers - Samsung Ads’ incredible floating penthouse being a key hub for this essential work. 4) All Adboard Getting there by train is quite simply a far nicer experience. Going forwards, this will always be my preferred choice. Pro tip - book it all through Eurostar to make sure you get the lovely Air Con train and not the ‘school bus vibes’ a few fellow train travellers had to endure. There were many other people and organisations who made a huge impression on me, so thank you to everyone I met or spent time with last week, it was awesome.
