LAA’s AIM reports shed light on improving lung cancer care for patients: Ahead of #ASCO2024, oncology care is top of mind for all. As LAA focuses on increasing screening and early diagnosis in #LungCancer, as well as delivering innovative medicine and improving quality care, we are pleased to provide key resources for HCPs to support them as, together, we work to tackle this disease. Fundamental changes in lung cancer symptom recognition, early screening and access are urgently needed. Only then can tangible improvements be made, and more patient lives saved. Working together, we can successfully address current challenges and work towards a global shift in improving outcomes in lung cancer care. As we take a moment to reflect on the significance of World Lung Cancer Day 2023, we share the remarkable analysis conducted by Sqilline for ARPharM (https://lnkd.in/d2Jd6ghw). The insights derived from this collaboration have showcased the significant progress in the treatment of #lungcancer patients in Bulgaria. Key figures: 📌 Overall survival (OS) of patients with lung cancer in Bulgaria has improved by 3 months (45%) 2019 vs. 2000 which might be related to the introduction of new therapies. 📌 Тhe probability for improving additionally the OS increases: o  From 28% to 44% within the 1st year since diagnosis and o  From 12% to 26% within the 2nd year since diagnosis. 📌 70-76% of the initiated therapies reach clinical benefit (respond to therapy) for the patients with lung cancer. We are proud to be part of this effort to improve #healthcare outcomes and positively impact the lives of patients.

The GLCC has added two new factsheets to the Resources section of its website. They aim to address the subjects of Shared Decision Making and Brain Metastases. Being diagnosed with #lungcancer can be scary and daunting. Shared decision making allows patients to be as involved as they would like to be in making decisions about their care, treatment and management options. Our new factsheet outlines clearly what this entails and how being closely involved in the process of making choices along the care path can help patients feel more in control of their situation. Brain metastases occur in around 10% of cases of non small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and up to 50% of cases of small cell lung cancer (SCLC). What are they, how do they occur and what are their implications for people with lung cancer? Those areas are what we seek to address in our new factsheet. Both are available now in pdf format, and can be readily downloaded and printed off as required. As with all our factsheets, these were developed by a team of contributors drawn from various member organisations within the GLCC. The work was overseen by members of our Steering Committee. We NEED the VOICE of people diagnosed with localized kidney cancer! IKCC is partnering with Dr. Steven MacLennan from the University of Aberdeen and others across Europe to better understand the patient, healthcare providers and researchers perspective on the side effect and benefit outcomes which should be measured in clinical trials. The hope is the results of this survey will improve the way kidney cancer research is done in future and that the results will be more helpful for making decisions about treatments for healthcare professionals and patients. It is very important that patients are able to give their opinions on these outcomes, because what is considered to be important to clinicians and researchers can be very different to what patients consider to be important in terms of their quality of life. The information and opinions you share in this survey will tell the researchers which outcomes should be measured when studying kidney cancer. When this project is finished, the core outcome set will be shared with other researchers nationally and internationally. March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise visibility for the third most common cancer diagnosis in the United States. While it is typically associated with people over 50, there is an increasing prevalence of colon cancer being diagnosed for those between 20 and 49. It is critical that those who are at risk or are showing symptoms get tested. The providers we at CareAllies work with focus on helping patients who are at risk for developing colorectal cancer to determine the most appropriate test for them. Then coordinate with #specialists to create a patient-specific plan to treat those diagnosed with colorectal cancer, ensuring they get the quality care they deserve. If we as an industry work together to create these patient centric plans early on in treatment, we can improve patient outcomes. World Lung Cancer Day, observed annually on August 1st, serves as a significant reminder of the global impact of lung cancer and the importance of raising awareness about this disease. The first World Lung Cancer Day was observed in 2012, initiated by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS). Lung cancer is by far the leading cause of cancer death, making up almost a quarter of all cancer deaths. Check out what local cancer clinics and medical institutions have in store for this day.
