Have to imagine a few folks made it to the end of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's post and thought "What are Gridscopes...?". No need to lie awake at night again tonight, it's us at Gridware. If you want to hear about the incredibly clever technology being leveraged for not only #stormresilience & #wildfiremitigation, but fault location & outage restoration, asset management, and above all else, safety, drop me a note. Pacific Gas and Electric Company Corporation CEO Patti Poppe joined fellow energy #innovators in a discussion at Edison Electric Institute #EEI2024 on #wildfire mitigation and prevention. Ignitions caused by electrical equipment in PG&E's service area have been reduced by almost 70% since 2017 by the multiple layers of wildfire protection the company has added. But PG&E isn't stopping there. PG&E recently added downed conductor detection technology, which automatically deenergizes powerlines if they hit the ground. The technology prevented 17 occurrences of downed lines from causing ignitions last year. PG&E has also added 1,700 Gridscope sensor devices to its powerlines, which sense disturbances that have yet to make contact with a powerline. It plans to install 6,500 more in 2024 to further reduce wildfire risk.
