Of course I’m a bit biased being a Poly educator, but I totally agree with your perspective that Poly graduates are often better prepared to take on industry work given their chosen pathway has exposed them to modules that are industry-co-created, structured opportunities through real life applications such as industry projects and internships. While the end game for most Poly grads is still earning a degree (1 in 3 still pursue their degrees), they are more adept to take on jobs that require very specific skills that they have mastered through their Poly education. I also agree with you that Poly graduates being more focused and decided on the specific domain skills they want to learn means they may likely have an edge in securing relevant emerging skills like AI, Data Analytics, Automation etc. that they can apply in the work setting. That said, it will still depend on the students, their mindsets and influences that will lead them to the right pathways that match their future aspirations.

This webinar showcased our research carried out in partnership with The Bridge Group, and delved into what young people want from work experience, and ways employers can make it accessible for all. 💡 Over 85% of young people that completed our survey, said that attending a work experience event gave them knowledge and information about industries that they could not have gotten anywhere else. There are only "minimal changes" in attitudes towards career options between the ages of seven and 17, says the report produced jointly by the OECD and Education and Employers.,,,"You can't be what you can't see. It’s time for our year 10s to start thinking about being ready for the future by selecting their subjects for year 11 and 12. Today we had our careers expo, where we could set up faculty displays. This year the Humanities faculty tried a minimalist approach, avoiding information overload and trying to encourage more conversation. For students who wanted to know more about a particular subject, we had bookmarks with summaries of each subject, as well as lead teachers for more subject specific questions. It was great to be able to chat to students and get an idea of their thinking for the future. Hopefully, with the work the team has done in our year 10 Humanities program, we will see more students inspired to pick at least one Humanities subject for next year! #thehumanitiesareimportant #preparationfortherealworld
