The Bay Bridge. Wonder how the traffic studies are progressing? Maybe if we don’t build it, traffic will diminish and things will regress to simpler times….in the face of progress we should really consider going backwards. What is actually needed to get this significant, obvious and economic driver considered a priority?

Is transportation infrastructure a public good? and should the government be providing it? This was an interesting debate that I got into my car ride back from work, and interestingly it also highlighted to me how often public spending on infrastructure is justified as being a public good - spoiler alert it is not! As I sought evidence to dispel this popular myth, I came across an elegantly written article that made all the right arguments - sharing it here for everyone to read! https://lnkd.in/gQtWQy_f #TransportationInfrastructure #PublicGoods #GovernmentSpending #InfrastructureDebate #AlternativePerspectives

We love and want to hear public feedback. We have two public meetings on the Hartford Mobility Study coming up on Nov. 9 and 16 between 6-8 p.m. The study recommends transportation solutions to facilitate economic growth on both sides of the Connecticut River and in the region while improving public safety and expanding mobility choices to all users. The outcome of the study is a multi-modal transportation plan for the region, one which outlines a roadmap for future implementation of the various recommendations. https://lnkd.in/eFC-AnTc

'A delay is now expected on progressing the Greater Cambridge Local Plan, which is supposed to last up until 2041. It is now expected that a new 30 month process to approve the plan will not begin until autumn or winter 2025.' Shocking. What happens in the interim? Rogue development approvals, dodgy appeals? Surely since the area has been earmarked by Gove as development central more should be done to expedite the process. One of the reasons for the delay in the article is about the scarcity of water supplies- which is very valid and significant reason. I would also be concerned about the electrical grid capacity as well. If the scale of the development proposed is not sustainable or feasible, then the numbers clearly don't stack up. The pressure on the area is already beyond measure. Facilities, amenities, etc. are not there for the people that currently live in and around the area. There is another article in the same paper about how parents are now being told there are no places available at their nearest school, so they will have to commute to St Neots for places. How can we ask more and more of the area when it is not sufficiently supporting the current needs of residents? Don't get me started on traffic, pot holes, congestion, cyclists, etc.! Something has to give. Whilst I appreciate the need to wait for the local plan to be agreed, what happens in the meantime?

Perhaps I paid too much attention in economics class? But shouldn't the public discussion about congestion pricing in NYC be more focused on what price is appropriate versus the whole idea of congestion pricing? It has been shown in many cities that congestion pricing generates revenue which can be used for public transit projects, reduces traffic in the city, and speeds up the movement of traffic. The big unknown is what the relationship is between price and these proven outcomes. So why was price not part of the political discussion? https://lnkd.in/eQ3RaP-R

This Wednesday! Register now for our program featuring experts from the University of California’s Institute of Transportation Studies and our very own Laura Tolkoff discussing the future of transit operations in California! California has adopted ambitious goals for public transit, but many public transit agencies are anticipating major operating funding shortfalls in the coming years. Left unaddressed, transit operators will be left without the financial and operational capacity needed to realize these goals. Even before the pandemic, state funding programs for transit operations both underfunded our largest and highest-ridership systems and were misaligned with contemporary state goals. How could state transit operating programs be restructured to achieve better outcomes for riders, the environment, equity and the economy? Join us to hear from panelists from University of California's Institute of Transportation Studies to learn about the research they've been conducting on transit ridership and the future of state funding for transit.

2wMaybe a PR Firm could walk up/down for the summer handing out QR code survey flyers to the millions of parked cars? Most surveys probably get a single (%) digit turn out. In this scenario, it may be a rare 100%. Then hand the reaults over to the newspapers and watch the vitality influence the political decision makers? I know a guy 👀
