Hello! I’m excited to share my first day at the #GoDigitalEnergy2024 Summit. Our rallying cry? "INNOVATE, DECARBONISE, CHANGE: DRIVING DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION WITH AI AND DATA."
Summarizing to keep your scroll light but impactful. 📜
I would like to begin with a bold declaration from Tim van Amstel, asserting that "There is no Energy Transition without digitalization." This sentiment was richly complemented by Jeroen Scheer from Shell, who wove a vision of a future where #digitaltransformation and #energytransition merge to reinvent our energy systems.
🔗 On the Data Frontier: Deepak Anand from GHGSAT captivated us with the idea that all digitalization efforts orbit (no pun intended 😂) around precise, quality data—the cornerstone for successful digital transformations. While Iulia Maes from Cognite emphasized the importance of data contextualization, stating that 80%-90% of AI projects' time is dedicated to making data accessible and meaningful for the models
🏭 Delving into Industrial Impact: From the corridors of PETRONAS, Yi Shin Ng shared insights on how digitalization has notably enhanced productivity. Amit Chander Gupta from Accenture broadened the perspective by discussing how swift decision-making in the O&G upstream sector will cut down capital investments dramatically.
🤝 Blueprints for Success: Egil Nybakk from Aker BP AS introduced the concept of "Data Liberation" — a genuine and transparent data sharing across areas, including mistakes to enhance model learning and overall adaptation. This approach in my experience is more challenging than the technical posed by LLM's, yet with the unwavering evangelism from their CEO, they managed to implement. Achieving this, according to Nybackk, is akin to reaching the "well of wisdom", drawing from Norse mythology where Odin sacrificed an eye to gain immense knowledge and insight. It seems that breaking down silos and fostering real collaboration is the 'eye' we need to sacrifice. 😊
👩💻 Fostering Talent and AI Democratization: @Patricia Macera from SLB and Burcak Timucin from SOCAR Türkiye shared their strategies on empowering their teams. Burcak detailed a fascinating approach to cultural alignment and management development that progresses from individual digital tools to a complete business transformation.
Socar approach scales from the individual level to the team, and finally to the entire business sphere. One standout initiative is their “Citizen Developer” program, which equips employees with low or no-code tools tailored for specific needs. This strategy is revolutionary, in my view, because I truly believe that the future language of coding could be as universal as English, fundamentally democratizing AI.
As we wrapped up today, a phrase shared by Jeroen Scheer resonated deeply with me, “Dream Big, Start small, but most of all, START!”
🌟 Stay tuned as I continue to share more from this incredible summit. Let’s drive change together, one innovation at a time!
