THAT S&GO DRIP: Our Soil & Groundwater Operations (S&GO) team is the GOAT🐐! Not to flex, but these workers are slaying. They installed 30 additional groundwater wells, conducted routine sampling and maintained the Hanford Site’s six pump-and-treat facilities that are cleaning up sus groundwater. The P&T’s have radiological and chemical contaminants shook as they low-key treat more than 2 billion gallons of groundwater every 365. NGL, it’s a W for advancing our cleanup mission. 👊 Translation: Our S&GO team is outstanding! Workers recently installed 30 additional groundwater wells, conducted routine sampling and replaced filters at one of the pump-and-treat facilities located near the Columbia River. The pump-and-treat facilities are critical to Hanford’s cleanup mission, collectively removing hundreds of pounds of contaminants from more than 2 billion gallons of groundwater annually.

Water may be scarce, but our actions to tackle this crisis shouldn't be. This sentiment was perfectly summarized during the recent handing-over ceremony of a drilling rig to Laikipia County. The provision of this drilling rig signifies our unwavering commitment to addressing the water scarcity challenge head-on. In a time when water resources are increasingly strained, we are demonstrating that our actions can and should be both proactive and effective. By equipping Laikipia County with this valuable tool, we are not only acknowledging the severity of the issue but also showcasing our determination to implement tangible solutions.

Those of us that do post-fire risk assessments know how hard it is to predict physical or ecosystem response following wildfire. Fire/burn severity provides some idea of how things may respond, but there's a lot of noise too. That's why it's encouraging to see data like this from our recent monitoring of post-fire salvage logging projects. This shows sediment delivery at road-stream crossings as a function of watershed scale averaged differenced Normalized Burn Ratio (dNBR - an index of fire severity) and percent of upstream watershed area with moderate/high soil burn severity.
