#gamengine #directx12 DirectX 12 game engine, lock-free or not lock-free? to me, feels like it's a choice between maybe thousands of atomic objects and one mutex. the test below:  1 main thread: for interface and stuff (like adding/deleting objects) 3 worker threads, for assembling command list. 1 loading thread for loading objects. and 3 frame buffers then, it's rendering and random adding/deleting of objects. currently, I lock once per frame with mutex(kind of like a CPU fence), this can be changed to atomic to make it lock-free, but, I think, current model works just fine :) (I only have one volatile variable in every objects (maybe thousands of objects or more)), so, it's a choice between one mutex operation and thousands of atomic operations, which one to pick? queue-lock cost in loading thread is negligible by the way, I think, if I change that one volatile variable to atomic, my current DirectX 12 game engine can already be considered as a #lockfree engine.
