Keep Your Portions in Check Most restaurant portions are out of control. On occasion, it’s okay to overindulge if you go out to eat. But our recommendation is to develop an over strategy for portion control. Most may know that I teach clients to meal prep, and those who are working or traveling will use a combination of meal prep and packaged fueling options for a more manageable lifestyle. I use those smaller meal prep containers that only have room for certain size portions… which keeps me from overeating or putting large amounts of food into one meal container. But when we go out to dinner… what the hell do we do? Here are a few tips: Visualize those little dividers on a nine-inch plate. And separate your portions if you have to. Take the rest home. Order two small appetizers instead of a large entree, such as a soup and dinner salad or a shrimp cocktail. Split a meal with your spouse. Don’t rely on the chef or waiter to serve you the proper amount of food. Most humans will eat whatever is in front of them, whether they want it or not. Always ask for leftover containers when you place your order.
