Ransomware: It is not a matter of will happen but when. An 🤜 attack to the US healthcare payment processor who fell victim to a ransomware attack, is another testament how ransomware can bring disruptions to critical sectors. Similar to the Colonial Pipeline attack, ransomware is not just a threat but a weapon of disruption, capable of immobilizing critical infrastructure and services. 💡 Industries across the spectrum, need to have that urgency for robust cybersecurity measures because the question now is not if another attack will happen, but when. 🛡️ Hence, this is another personal reminder to revisit things that we can do to be resilient against these digital onslaughts: 1️⃣ Education and Awareness: Awareness is still key. Regular training on recognizing phishing attempts and suspicious links can dramatically reduce the risk of successful attacks. 2️⃣ Update and Patch: At least on IT, we need to ensure that all software and systems are up-to-date with the latest patches. It is not always the case for OT though, but we can concluded that vulnerabilities in outdated software are prime targets for attackers. 3️⃣ Regular Backups: Regular and encrypted backups of critical data ensures that you can restore your systems without paying a ransom. 4️⃣ Implement Access Controls: The principle of least privilege by limiting user access only to the information and resources necessary for their role works! Just need to ensure that we map those roles properly. 5️⃣ Incident Response Plan: Plan and then test! Tested incident response plan help us react quickly and efficiently to minimize damage and restore operations sooner. 6️⃣ Collaborate and Share Information: Engage with industry partners and government agencies to share threat intelligence. Knowledge sharing can help prevent attacks and prepare for emerging threats. ⭐ Ransomware doesn't discriminate. From healthcare to energy, no sector is immune. It's time we all play our part in building a resilient digital fortress, capable of withstanding the cyber storms of the 21st century. #CybersecurityAwareness #RansomwareProtection #DigitalResilience https://lnkd.in/g9Wi-_fB

The recent data breach at UT Southwestern, affecting over 2,000 Texans, underscores the ever-present risks in managing sensitive information. It’s a stark reminder of the lurking dangers of 'shadow IT'—where unauthorized software and applications can lead to significant vulnerabilities, sometimes beyond the scale we witness. This incident, fortunately, did not escalate to a cyberattack. However, it raises critical questions about internal controls and compliance with cybersecurity best practices. In my past roles, I've seen how an unchecked environment can potentially lead to even greater risks. That’s why I developed and implemented strategic plans specifically designed to bring shadow IT into the light, establishing robust controls, and significantly mitigating associated risks. As someone who is actively seeking a new role, I am looking to bring this same level of vigilance and strategic planning to an organization that prioritizes the integrity and security of its data as much as its operational success. With a well-documented track record in fortifying IT environments, I am ready to help your team safeguard against these internal threats. #cybersecurity #databreach #shadowit #riskmanagement #opentowork https://lnkd.in/dt29aDYX
