It's here! Part two of a three-part series I've been writing with Kene Anoliefo! In this series, we delve into our journey at El Camino Travel, exploring the impact of AI on our business and the wider industry. It's crazy to me how much spaghetti is being thrown at the wall right now in the travel industry when it comes to AI, with little to no meaningful user research or interviews, all in the name of "speed" or being "first to market." My hope is that part two of this series can provide others in the industry with more resources and tools to actually build and create things with AI that will have a meaningful impact on the future of the travel industry and the customer itself. Should everybody smash out AI features ASAP? Maybe, actually. Usually the expensive thing is development so we Product folks need to do a lot of homework up front to make sure the customer value is there first. This is the way. But what happens when the technical landscape changes dramatically, and suddenly? Now things that were expensive to implement are cheap and it changes the equation. So, if it’s going to take you 2 weeks smash out an AI feature, that may be the fastest and best experiment to learn what’s valuable from your customers. And hey, everyone is really tolerant of that beta tag with a magic AI sparkle graphic ✨ right now. 😉 I know, not what I usually say. Prototypes! False doors! User interviews! Keep doing that. But the POINT of those things are to learn about what customers value as fast as possible. So keep your eye on the prize.

A couple of face-palm-worthy insights from our recent customer development interviews: 1. ➡ Many small business owners be like: "AI? Oh yeah, that's big league stuff for the big fish in the big pond. Not for us little guys." And yet, five minutes later they're groaning about how they're one 'copy-paste' away from a meltdown. 2. ➡ On the flip side, corporate folks are nodding: "AI? Sure, it's saving lives or something in hospitals, but in my day-to-day? I can't think of a single routine task it could take over." Top management in many corporations overlook the importance of equipping their staff with AI knowledge, and employees sense something amiss, concerned they might be left behind as AI reshapes industry standards. #ai #entrepreneurship #digitaltransformation #futureofwork
