Closing Engagement Gaps: I guide companies through cultural challenges, change resistance, and developing managers to drive business performance.
"How do we prevent burnout? We treat children better." Cait Donovan 🍳 Jahmaal Marshall What a brilliant, thought-provoking, enlightening podcast. It's what I've been battling to solve (impact? help? move?) my entire career. Because: How do we create a world that enables amazing things to be accomplished for the world by companies everywhere ... ... while also demanding it be done in a way that makes the world a better place ... because a "great place to work" should be a place that contributes to the healing of humanity, ... not a place that systematically requires people to "erase parts of themselves" ... so that they return to their non-work lives a little more damaged every day ... and can never break free from harmful, even deadly, generational cycles Work demands that we: ➊ Adopt "professionalism." (translation: deny your Self, prioritize the company's needs) ➋ Figure the rest out ourselves. "If you don't like the job, then quit. There are 1,000 other people who would be grateful to have your job." Don't leaders and companies have a responsibility to humanity? (Instead of, "It's not our job to fix them. This is business.") Even from a self-serving POV? The healthier your workforce, the more likely your sustained business success. That's why we in "the industry" so often start with leaders. And here's where we enter the Thunderdome. Leaders exist in the same f*cked up paradox - and it is the exceptional great wisdom, deep conviction, and full commitment to break out of it. To fight every day for what you believe, the future you want to create, in a system that will do almost anything to bait, coerce, bribe, and use your very own biology, psychology, and neurology against you ... to abandon your principles and "go along with the program." Around a dinner table stocked with brilliant minds last night (Hansen Hunt Brandon Peele Kat Vellos (she/her) Brad Wolfe Ezra Bookman Craig Forman Charles Vogl Socheata Poeuv), we talked about proximal levels of development. A leader's daily reality is the Thunderdome. Defenses, denial, their own stories are at the ready. They're in full "protect the company" regalia, persona, and mode. Which is why so many "interventions" fail (one of many reasons). People can't leap from "I'm responsible for running this multi-m/billion $ company" to "I'm doing things and not doing things which harm the people depending on me" in one conversation. Learning about it and hoping doesn't work either, as a strategy. Our pesky biology, psychology, and neurology again ... there are no shortcuts. There isn't ONE solution - and not everyone agrees that this is the problem to be solved ... you know, healing humanity. I'm glad the two of you are in my universe - because I think we at least agree on the problem. Which means we can light it up for those who are ready to get to solving it.

Partnering with HR teams to deliver Workplace Wellbeing that's practical and effective, without the fluff | Speaker | Workplace Wellbeing Specialist | Creating Healthier Workforces | Corporate Health
Practical strategies for building wellbeing at work. That was the topic of the day when I spoke to the great Shelley Johnson on the 'My Millenial Career' podcast. It was a lot of fun and we got into some deep talk on wellbeing including: What wellbeing is (and what it isn't). Comfort vs wellbeing (and why they're not the same). Striking work/life balance (and if it actually exists). Strategies for integrating wellbeing into how we work (at an individual and organisational level). How to stay energised and avoid burnout and heaps more. Check it out and let me know what questions you have! This profound insight from our co-founder Tom Rosenak's appearance on Amy Riley’s The Courage of a Leader Podcast serves as a primer for our upcoming panel discussions on Employee Wellbeing/Wellness. "There is a reality in gravity, friction, and mortality, that there is a limited bandwidth. And if you try to do all things at once, you're going to short circuit the emotional ecosystem." This compelling reflection on the human capacity for work is a poignant prelude to addressing the nuances of burnout in the workplace. Listen to Tom's original interview on The Courage of a Leader podcast and stay tuned for the upcoming panel discussions. #LeadershipWellbeing #SelfLeadership #EmployeeWellness #Burnout
