Very excited to announce the new addition to my name:
A/Prof Jennifer Zenker
Thanks to my team and supporters (scientists and non-scientists) who were joining me on this journey, my promotion to A/Prof has been made possible. 5.5 years ago, I arrived at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia) with a dream. Since then, this dream has been transformed into a clear vision to uncover the intricate processes that govern the formation of life. Advancing our knowledge on how a new life is assembled, may pave the way for new possibilities to repair and regenerate diseased or injured body parts and organs. Together, the Zenker Lab published groundbreaking papers on cell fate regulation, cell biological mechanisms during early embryogenesis, and innovative imaging technologies for watching and manipulating development pathways in the embryo. Our research catapulted the Zenker Lab onto the international stage, allowing me to take on various leadership roles, securing highly competitive funding for the continuous growth of the Zenker Lab, invitations to speaker opportunities across the world and most importantly, allowing me to provide young talented scientists of tomorrow a path to fulfill their dreams. But it hadn’t been easy. Long hours, countless writing tasks for me and countless experiments for my lab members, and the inevitable setbacks had been part of the journey. Through perseverance and an unlimited passion for my work as a scientist and leader, we achieved all critical milestones that seemed unimaginable at the start.
My promotion to A/Prof marks one of the biggest milestones in my career thus far, but I also know that it is just the beginning of the next chapter. In the years to come, I will guide the Zenker Lab to continue to push the boundaries of knowledge in regenerative and reproductive medicine. Each new discovery may bring us closer to our ultimate goal: a future where damaged tissues and organs can be repaired, replaced, or even regenerated, thanks to a deeper understanding of how life begins and develops from a single cell – the fertilised egg. To turn uncertainty into hope.
Footnote to picture:
Taken at the annual conference of the Adora IVF &Fertility clinics last month. It was a fantastic conference where I was invited as a speaker to update clinicians & nurses about the current science in the field. What cannot be seen on this picture is that this day started for me at 04.00am as I had a 170km bike ride plus 40min run off the bike on my schedule before spending the day at the conference…
Congratulations to ARMI group leader Jenny Zenker who has been promoted to Associate Professor!
An international leader in reproductive and regenerative science, Jennifer was recruited to ARMI in 2018 and has since achieved significant milestones which have led to her recent promotion.
Highlights include publications in Nature (2021) and Nature Communications (2023) with her team and collaborators. She was awarded the highly competitive Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) Azrieli Scholarship (2019), an Ideas Grant (2020) and an EL2 Investigator Grant (2021) from the Australian NHMRC. As a real mark of her distinction and scientific excellence, Jennifer also received the prestigious Sylvia and Charles Viertel Senior Medical Research Fellowship and the Eduard Kellenberger Medal from the International Federation of Societies for Microscopy, both in 2023.
Jennifer has also supervised a number of PhD, Masters and Honours students, and has been a driving force behind the ARMI Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Congratulations A/Prof Jennifer!
