Since several years, our distribution centre, 'The Basecamp' in Verden, close to Bremen, collaborates with the local Verdener Tafel e.V. in their valuable work with leftover food donations. Verdener Tafel e.V. operates exclusively with volunteers, collecting surplus food from regional businesses and distributing it to those in need. This partnership allows us to support local communities by ensuring food reaches those who need it, while saving food from going to waste. 🌱 We look forward to continuing our partnership with this fantastic organization in the future. #InsideHelloFresh #Solidarity #Values #Sustainability #Verden #TheBasecamp #Verdenjobs

An article by The New York Times outlined a strategic plan by The White House to keep edible food out of landfills. Roughly 30% of the country's food supply isn't eaten, but thrown away or wasted. Officials are trying to change the behavior of both businesses and individuals to reduce waste and expand food donations. I rescue healthy food from growers, manufactures and shippers to give to people who would otherwise go to bed hungry. I also run Zilch, a new program, the vision is to feed more and waste less.
Second Harvest Inland Northwest has been living sustainably for over 50 years. A core part of our work, getting food to people facing hunger is the rescue of food that may otherwise go to waste. Today we have a program called Grocery Rescue that matches neighborhood foodbanks with grocery stores, we rescued 12.5 million pounds of food in 2023. We also work with many food producers to get donations. Our total food distribution in 2023 was over 35 million pounds and most of that was rescued and donated. As we enter 2024 our sustainability efforts and commitment to feeding people facing hunger continues. In fact, we are leaning in even more aggressively to get the most out of our operations with Zilch – an effort to waste less and feed more. Since the beginning of the year, we have added 19 new organizations that we are helping. There are lots of ways for the business community to be a part of this effort through sponsorship and volunteering. #sustainability #Zilch #helpingeachother

Happy National Farmers Market Week! National Farmers Market Week (NFMW) starts today! How are you celebrating? Here are 3 easy ways you can celebrate how farmers markets are changing the way we eat, shop, connect, and more! 1. Spread the word! Encourage your community to meet you at your market and to use their social media accounts to be proud and vocal supporters of your farmers market. 2. Donate and volunteer! Many markets rely on volunteers and donations to operate. Consider using NFMW as an opportunity to recruit volunteers and solicit donations. 3. Stay connected. Across the country, farmers markets are defining their role in our communities. Markets are not only essential to local food systems, but are increasing opportunities for us to learn, grow, and work together. Farmers markets are designed in partnership with the people they serve, and create a space where market operators, farmers, shoppers, and neighbors can collaborate to meet the evolving needs of their community. National Farmers Market Week is a chance to demonstrate how farmers markets (especially YOUR market) is changing the way we eat, shop, connect, and more! #herbfarmer #certifiedmarketmanager

Passionate Advocate for Financial Empowerment | Dedicated to Uplifting Underserved Communities and Individuals |Spirit aligned in redefining purpose to make life changing impacts
The US is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, yet the wealth inequity gap continues to widen, the middle class seems to be disappearing, the cost of living expense increases is outpacing rise in wages, and, and, and... the list goes on. All of these "ands" are creating multiple levels of insecurity-- food insecurity, housing insecurity, education insecurity, wage insecurity. I know several of my friends Christopher Morris, CUDE, CCUFC and Mark Volz, CUDE, CCM who continue to give of their resources and time at these food pantries in Madison. What if each of us were for 30 days to give up "something" that we enjoy (i.e. Starbucks, eating out weekly) and instead donate either that money or goods in kind to our local food pantries? And then once you have figured out that you can probably do without one or two things of small cost in your life, continue to donate that money! Or even maybe go a day without eating anything and provide the money equivalent of meals for that one day to food banks and pantries...and oh by the way it might give you a small "taste" of what it is like not to have food to eat and how that impacts you not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Use the link below to see what the food insecurity looks like in your community. https://lnkd.in/e6HVa2GP FYI, In my small rural county in White County Tennessee, 16.3% of the population are food insecure- 4,480 people. #foodinsecurity #creditunions
It's been one week since a coalition of 36 Dane County food pantries released a letter to the community and held a press conference at the Capitol. We came together to sound an alarm about the rising number of people facing food insecurity and the need for both immediate support and longer-term solutions to the challenges of distributing enough food to meet the growing need. You can get involved in building a community where our neighbors don't have to experience hunger. A circular approach to re-use, repair and recycling provides benefits not only for the planet but it can also generate commercial opportunity, provide services to the community, as well as realising local talent. toogoodtowaste is a re-use charity based in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Through strong commercial partnership with business and the local community, toogoodtowaste receive donations from retailers, house clearances, office refurbishments and domestic household collections. As a result, the impact of consumption was reduced by extending the useful life of items as well as reducing the impact of the retail decline in the South Wales Valleys. "Shopping local matters because it supports your community. It helps create jobs, keeps money in the local economy, and helps sustain small businesses. Local businesses are usually more invested in their communities, and they often support local causes and charities. Shopping local also helps reduce environmental impacts by reducing transportation costs and emissions." 🌟 Proud to see how initiatives like PORCH Chattanooga are growing and making a difference in our communities! 🌟 PORCH Chattanooga is part of the larger PORCH Communities movement, dedicated to reducing food insecurity through neighbors helping neighbors. Our model is simple: once a month neighbors leave the most needed non-perishable items on their front porches, and our volunteers pick up and deliver them to a local pantry. This incredible program is an example of how we can all play a role in supporting our neighbors and creating a more sustainable future. PORCH Chattanooga’s success shows the power of community involvement. By donating food, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, we can all contribute to making our towns better places to live. If you're inspired by PORCH Chattanooga, consider starting or joining a similar initiative in your own community. (https://lnkd.in/ehtgZTQS) Together, we can create a network of support and ensure that no one goes hungry.
