If you put your Head of People under Finance, it signals you're treating People as a cost center. If you put it under Legal, it means you're treating them as a liability. If you put it under your CEO, you're signaling People is a strategic asset. Simple as that.

Nightmare fuel. Of course, some of the problems could be in the prompting, some could be in the source content used for training. But still, quite underwhelming. To be fair, would we ever need to generate gymnastics videos through AI...?

The ups and downs of global productivity. In this interesting podcast by McKinsey & Company, Roberta Fusaro, Olivia White, and Chris Bradley discuss global productivity trends. One thing immediately stood out to me right at the beginning of the episode because it is so painful to me as an Argentinian: "Emerging economies are on a highway with fast and slow lanes, with immensely diverging speeds between different lanes. So for a fast-lane economy such as Poland, if it kept up the pace of productivity growth it’s had over the past 25 years, it would reach US productivity levels within the next 11 years. And China would be there in about 15 to 16 years. By contrast, for a country like Indonesia, which has been in the middle lane, it would take 135 years. And for countries in the slow lane, such as Argentina, at its pace of productivity growth over the past 25 years, it would never catch up." I can understand the perspective because as a Talent leader of a global organization with teams in Argentina, I was continuously baffled and challenged by some questionable political and economic decisions over the past few decades, and the continuous background cognitive noise everyone in Argentina needs to work against (only briefly interrupted by sports celebration noises in the past 3 years). But at the same time, talking about things like this in aggregate can create a stigma on all Argentinian companies and even employees. I know first-hand of MANY companies, particularly in the software industry, that are delighted about how resourceful, capable, productive, and friendly their Argentinian teams are. Would love to hear the thoughts of my Argentinian entrepreneur friends -and their clients- on this topic, so we can shine the light on the positive cases too.
