March is National Social Workers Month! For more than a century, social workers have helped our nation tackle major societal challenges, including the push for equal rights for women, people who are Black and people who are LGBTQIA2S+. It is important that our society empower and support social workers so they can continue to help people in our communities to improve their lives. Benji Parker, LCSW and Ashley Smith, LCSW are just two of our many awesome social workers at Highland Rivers! We have great appreciation for them this month and every month of the year! If you are looking for a career as a social worker, we hope you join our team. Visit us at https://lnkd.in/gdA662TD. #Socialworkersmonth #Socialworkerjobs #highlandriversbehavioralhealth #TheCSBisMe

The pandemic made it clearer that certain groups of workers disproportionately work in low-wage jobs, have fewer or no advancement opportunities, and face more discrimination and harassment. This is especially true for LGBTQIA+ individuals, particularly people of color and trans workers. While 20% of all LGBTQIA+ households make less than $25,000 a year, transgender people of color fare worse, with 75% of Native American trans people and 43% of Hispanic trans people earning less than $25,000 a year. This shows the significant impact of the barriers LGBTQIA+ workers face on their access to good jobs and economic mobility. To build a California where all low-income workers can advance economically, putting the needs and voices of LGBTQIA+ communities in the center is a must. This year’s #UKDisabilityHistoryMonth theme is ‘Disability, Children and Youth’ The Children and Social Work Act 2017 requires us to regulate social workers in England. We ensure public protection by: 📌 promoting and maintaining professional standards 📌promoting and maintaining public health, safety and wellbeing 📌 ensuring public confidence in the profession The principles of equality, diversity and inclusion are synonymous with being a social worker. Social workers are uniquely placed to lead the way in achieving equality, as they champion people’s rights and support those that are marginalised. The social work profession is guided by values and principles of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice. As the specialist regulator for social workers, we’ll continue using our influence to promote social work’s role in addressing inequality. Today is #LGBTQIAEqualPay Awareness Day! The LGBTQIA+ community in New York still faces persistent economic inequality, often caused by employment and workplace discrimination. I made this video as part of PowHer New York to underline a few actions that would help advance economic justice for the NY LGBTQIA+ community. https://lnkd.in/egncApiC One thing we need to evaluate and close pay gaps is more accurate and intersectional data on LGBTQIA+ New Yorkers. The 2023 TGNCNB Employment report by NYS Department of Labor is a step in the right direction: https://lnkd.in/eTm_r6gb

𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 Unwanted advances, catcalls, butt pinches on public transport, water cooler Conversations around an "undeserved" promotion, unsightly labels for deadline-driven approaches, career breaks for elder care, childcare - Every woman who is capable of reading this can resonate with atleast one if not more of these instances. And hence the cries for equality, for diversity, for inclusion, for pay parity. We've fought through. We've got here. And now? It's for us to light up the way for the others. When you finally attain hard-fought power, it becomes your duty to turn around and guide the others and help them navigate those treacherous paths to the top. Do the Challenges remain for a large amount of us? Yes they do. Are they larger for the ones still lesser-empowered than us. Hell, yes! While you read this piece my team has delivered and made me so proud, I urge you to also realise the power some of us have attained. Wasn't a cakewalk, but we're here. What you do about it, is where your game is from here. And we the New Media are watching YOU. I welcome the new broader definition of disability in the 2023 amendment of the equality act (2010), which now considers the equality in participating professional life. However in my option, this definition is still largely based on an individual model that focuses on a person’s body condition rather than the social barriers that prevent disabled people from accessing equal opportunities and being treated fairly in many workplaces. https://lnkd.in/exZyRJVE
