In Zambia, remarkable groups of Catholic sisters are turning faith into action. On a recent visit, our Catholic Sisters initiative team was incredibly impressed by the Sisters' commitment to their communities. The sisters have launched social enterprises, created higher education opportunities, empowered young people, provided care for older sisters, and even fostered agricultural development. This work is a powerful testament to the impact of the sisters, and we feel privileged to support their inspiring efforts.

Steve Biko once said “Township life alone makes it a miracle for anyone to live up to adulthood". Biko was writing about the profound challenges faced by Black South Africans living under apartheid in the late 1960s and early 1970s, yet this reflection still resonates today as we reflect on 30 years of democracy. In 1993, around 9.7 million people lived in 300 informal settlements. Fast forward 25 years, and reports revealed a staggering 900% increase, with over 10 million residents in 3000 informal settlements. Similar to the times of apartheid, sanitation and clean water are issues residents still face in these communities. Zenzile Molo delves into the complexities of informal settlement upgrading. While some see upgraded structures as progress in township regeneration, Zenzile questions whether this truly addresses spatial apartheid. Can affordable public housing near well-resourced areas bridge the gap between rich and poor, black and white in South Africa? #annodominimagazine #apieceofgroundfilm #publicland #landjustce #spatialjustice #stevebiko #apartheid #apartheidsouthafrica #southafrcandemocracy

TAWS 2024 in Zanzibar Congratulations to the Almanah Hope Foundation and Zanzibar government, President, His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, for your leadership and for envisioning this event. In my capacity as executive director of The Global Fund for Widows, I look forward to working with you on making this an event that will support #African #NGOs working on the issue of widowhood to shape what 'African Widows Want'. #hivaids, #Covid19, #Roadtrafficinjuries, #Violence, #Coups, #Conflicts and other contributors to this #polycrisis in #Africa have led to this invisible, voiceless crisis. Global groups, funders, and #development experts working on #humanrights, #povertyallevation, #foodsecurity, and #womenempowerment have yet to recognize this issue as more than 10 million #widows who fall below the #povertyline on the day of their husband's death. I.e. (no particular order) Awareness and acknowledgment of specific challenges and barriers faced by these #Marginalized Widows in rural #Africa, Accurate #data on the seriousness of this issue, #Socialprotections for them and their dependents, # Legal rights include property, land, livestock, etc. #Socialinclusion and equal status in the society, #access to #health and #mentalhealth End of #Stigma and #Harmfultraditional Practices. The African Widows Summit (TAWS), scheduled for June 21-23, 2024 in Zanzibar, Tanzania is a premier three-day conference that aims to address the critical issue of #widowhood across the African continent and provide political leadership, guidance, and recommendations on the widow’s agenda in the #africanunion. https://lnkd.in/eNYeKZnW

'Decoloniality in healing centred peace building- social body healing and best practice insights from Zimbabwe' This will be my presentation in Rwanda next week at the The International Association for Reconciliation Studies (IARS) conference. The program looks deeply enriching, with speakers from Congo, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Rwanda, Korea and more. I am really, very honoured to be part of this initiative happening in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, and returning to Rwanda again after a few years 🙏 Inspired by work around africa and indigenous models of well being, I will be speaking to some key themes: •Healing centred peacebuilding, by Angi Yoder-Maina, Ph.D. and the team from Kenya, understanding the cycles of violence and collective healing needs at community level •Recognising historical and ongoig wounded institutions and wounded leadership as barriers but also entry points into social transformation, coming from Nomfundo Mogapi in South Africa: 'Be awake to your own wounds and how they impact your relationships' •The need for Culturally restorative practices, ensuring processes of reconciliation, peace building and transitional justice are culturally and contextually responsive, and not simply an add on, performative or tokenistic activity. I've learned this from my Aboriginal Australian friend and colleague Mishel McMahon, a Yorta Yorta woman from South Australia So many inspiring voices 🙌✨️ I will also be moderating the panel on Ecology and Reconciliation, an often missed but mutually reinforcing and dependent dynamic. Countries in conflict often exploit natural resources to fuel their fighting, further degrading the environment and infrastructure around them, which again furthers conflict. Looking forward to FEELING the hope and determination, and learning from this collective wisdom 🌿 #collectivehealing #decoloniality #ecologyandreconciliation

Giving is a powerful and fulfilling way to live. It demonstrates our compassion, gratitude, and impact. It enriches our lives and the lives of others. We can give in many forms and for many purposes. Some give out of moral responsibility, some to support a cause they care about, some to express their values, and some to experience the joy of generosity. I see giving as not only an obligation, but also an opportunity. Giving enables us to connect with others, to offer our gifts and talents, and to grow as human beings. Giving is not a one-sided affair, but a reciprocal exchange of value and appreciation. My personal examples of giving to family and friends is: Making provision for care packages with essential items, such as food, medicine, clothing, books, and toys. Supporting local organizations that work for the well-being and development of Nigerians, especially children, women, and marginalized groups. Constantly educating myself and others about the culture, history, and issues of Nigeria. Engaging and sharing my knowledge and opinions with my family, friends, and community in constructive dialogue and advocacy, especially about social, political and judicial matters. Celebrating and promoting Nigerian culture and heritage at every possible given opportunity. To conclude, I will say True giving is both an art and a spirit. #peaceofmind #GivingTuesday #GivingSeason

Telling stories is what I know, having impactful stories to tell it’s Divine.
Mini-documentary: Meet Joy and Bernadette (new beneficiaries, Chibombo, Zambia). 🇿🇲 When we first met Joy, Bernadette, and their family, they were facing extreme hunger along with numerous other barriers ❌. Once selected to be part of the S.H.E. Programme, without hesitation, the Catalyst Foundation team stepped in and provided the family with enough food 🍲 to sustain them until the team's return visit later in January. The sheer joy and gratitude in Joy and Bernadette's mother's eyes as she witnessed her daughters receiving the support that they needed to thrive in school 📚, was immeasurable. It brought her to tears, and this deeply touched our hearts. 🧡 This powerful moment exemplified what we do best: to break barriers, transform lives, and ignite dreams. 🌟 We would love to share these emotional moments with you! #impact ➡️ Discover more about our bespoke and life-changing support provided through the S.H.E.
