Three years ago, we embarked on a transformative journey to strengthen our positioning as a leader in the luxury hospitality industry. This multi-year strategy, designed to enhance our guest experience and maintain our competitive edge in the dynamic hospitality market, made significant strides in 2023. Here are some of our key highlights, as detailed in our Annual Review 2023: 🏨 We are reinvesting a total of US$1.75 billion into our property, resulting in breathtaking hotel renovations and the introduction of new luxury lifestyle and dining experiences. 🍃 We became the first and largest hotel in Singapore to meet the rigorous Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Industry Criteria for Hotels & Accommodations, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable practices. 🏆 Our pursuit of excellence was recognised with a record-breaking 122 awards in 2023, contributing to a total of 942 accolades earned since our opening. 🌃 We expanded our Bay Precinct Strategy to enrich the business visitor experience around the Marina Bay area with expanded nearby offerings. 🧑🤝🧑 We helped raise S$3.8 million through the Sands for Singapore Charity Festival, bringing our total since the Festival's inception in 2013 to over S$35 million, furthering our dedication to community engagement. 🎆 Our integrated resort came alive with vibrant festivals celebrating arts, dining, music, retail and wellness, along with nearly 90 captivating concerts, events and performances. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts plans to open over 10 hotels with 3,000+ rooms in Malaysia through a strategic partnership with Hospitality 360 (H36) Sdn Bhd. The collaboration targets at least 15 franchised hotels under Wyndham-owned brands by 2027, managed under Wyndham Grand, Dolce by Wyndham, and Ramada by Wyndham. Meanwhile, Gamuda Land is investing RM150 million to develop a mid-scale lifestyle hotel at Gamuda Cove, set to open in 1Q 2026. Managed by Dusit Hotels and Resorts under the ASAI brand, the 280-room hotel aligns with Gamuda's strategy to enhance its township ecosystem. On the other hand, Pacific Senior Living (PSL) Sdn Bhd, a Columbia Pacific Management Group entity, inaugurated Acacia, an assisted living community in Klang, Selangor, within the former Merrida Hotel. The transformed four-star hotel now features 136 rooms with modern medical facilities, catering to Malaysia's changing demographics with over 20% of Malaysians projected to be 65 or older by 2056. The Malaysian tourism sector is anticipated to experience positive growth, fueled by the expected reciprocal visa-free entry agreement with China, extending to India and the Middle East from December 1. MIDF Research projects sustained recovery, with December 2023 likely to see strengthened performance following the gradual full fleet reactivation of Malaysia AirAsia. Additionally, the Sarawak government is optimistic about surpassing its 2024 tourism target, having already recorded 3.18 million visitors in the first 10 months of 2023. Airbnb has introduced a Guide to Responsible Hosting in Malaysia, promoting responsible short-term rental activities in strata buildings. This initiative aims to ensure positive experiences for hosts, guests, and neighbors while enhancing community safety and regulatory fairness. Aviation Sector and Tourism Uptick: Malaysia saw a 27.5% increase in foreign tourists in the first four months of the year, with tourism contributing RM22.23 billion to the economy in Q1. Visa liberalization has significantly boosted arrivals from China and India. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) reported 11.2 million passengers in May, surpassing pre-pandemic levels for the fifth consecutive month. KLIA now serves 70 airlines, with three more airlines including British Airways, ThaiViet Jet and 9 Air expected to begin operations by year-end. Malaysia Airlines has teamed up with Huawei to enhance its customer-centric approach and expand its presence in the Chinese market. The partnership aims to offer personalized experiences and innovative solutions for travelers. Malaysia Airlines has climbed to 39th place in the 2024 Skytrax Awards, up from 47th in 2023. Additionally, AirAsia has retained its title as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for the 15th consecutive year. ETS Express Service: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will launch the ETS Express service in August, reducing travel time between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh to two hours. This upgrade is part of the Klang Valley Double Track (KDVT) project, enhancing travel efficiency and promoting tourism in Ipoh. Electrical and mechanical engineering group LFE Corp Bhd secured two contracts worth RM16.7 million for a 22-storey hotel in Georgetown, Penang, expected to be completed by November 2025. Seri Pajam Development Sdn Bhd launched SPD Tech Valley in Senawang, Negeri Sembilan, a RM3 billion industrial park that will notably feature a business and leisure support center with a boutique hotel. Additionally, Kuching will see three new international hotels, including one by Ascott, approved by the State Planning Authority, as part of efforts to expand accommodation options and meet future tourism demand, supported by increased direct flights and enhanced regional connectivity plans. Meanwhile, Putrajaya experiences surging demand for hotel rooms amidst changing travel preferences, notably with young, affluent travelers seeking immersive cultural experiences and 'bleisure' trips. In response, hotels like newly opened Moxy Putrajaya are enhancing offerings with advanced business facilities, wellness centers, dining choices, and leisure activities tailored to these evolving preferences. In recent developments within the travel and tourism sectors, Malaysia experienced a remarkable 19.5% surge in air passenger traffic in April 2024, primarily driven by domestic travel during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, signaling positive signs of recovery.
