The object tracking is a fundamental feature for long-range #surveillance, #monitoring and law enforcement applications. The operator can allocate the target and #zoom in, while the #onboard processor will hold the target in the center of the #video screen, regardless of the aircraft movement direction. The processing is done inside the #payload and the video processor automatically steers the pan and elevation axis of the gimbal so that the object of interest stays in the middle of the video frame. Operators can zoom in to the narrowest Field of View (FOV), while the ISR payload will remain locked on the target. I wanted to share this because it is something I've been geeking out over recently. When I was a ham radio operator in high school, I (understandably) had a very narrow idea of radios: point-to-point voice transmissions. While they are excellent tools for disaster response, we also had to rely on repeaters placed throughout L.A. to get any significant range on our handhelds. Relying on towers for comms, in my opinion, doesn't make for great resiliency during an earthquake. When I started here, I learned about #MANET radios, and I've been fascinated ever since. What they enable is insane: voice, video, and data transmissions without physical infrastructure. I'm particularly excited about applications in unmanned systems. I've been following some pretty cool developments and the concepts are being proven. I think of the recent exercises by US Navy and FLYMOTION's own Ridgeback payload, for example. If you already knew about — or currently work with — MANET radios, this is nothing new.
