If you want successful content, there’s one role you need:
Our team calls it the Content Champion.
- This person doesn’t have to be a subject matter expert.
- They don’t have to be an executive.
- They don’t even have to be in marketing or comms.
Their credentials are far less important than what they do.
- Ensure the right people show up for scheduled content calls
- Get buy-in from team members for SME interviews
- Transfer data - brand guidelines, white papers, raw video files, marketing materials, etc.
- Coordinate sending photos from last night’s event for today’s social post
- Push through the approval process, no matter how many times they have to follow up
The key is that the Content Champion is empowered to make decisions.
And when they ask for something from your team, there’s an agreement that your team will get it done.
No matter how closely we partner with our clients (and we do), we need that in-house advocate to quarterback and coordinate for us.
A good Content Champion is a content marketer’s best friend. 😊
P.S. Who do you think is the Content Champion in your company?
