We include compelling historical events and analyses throughout our Human-centered leadership courses to help our learners align those events with contemporary events that affect the healthcare experience of people and communities of color. Here is an example of an event we include: The case of Simkins v. Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is a landmark legal battle that significantly advanced the cause of civil rights in the realm of healthcare. Challenging and ultimately changing the discriminatory practices of hospitals that received federal funding helped pave the way for the desegregation of healthcare facilities in the United States. The formal apology issued by Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital to the Simkins plaintiffs underscores the ongoing process of reconciliation and the importance of acknowledging and addressing past injustices to move forward. So good to see you both together representing the very best in law enforcement communication strategy. Leadership, empathy and community. There are many training solutions out there but intellectual, thoughtful and holistic comms should be the bedrock of all PIOs *and* leaders do. It’s fundamental. Seek it out and master it. Being a good comms strategist takes experience, dedication and a commitment to the profession.
Rev. Dr. Eric Kowalczyk and I presented this past week at the Major Cities' Chiefs Association Police Executive Leadership Institute (PELI). It's always a kick to be back with my 'partner-in-crime' ... and an honor to work with future chiefs. BTW, the future looks bright if these folks were any indication.
