We are thrilled to share exciting news regarding the remarkable economic impact generated by the Port of Oakland, a true powerhouse in our region. In a recent economic impact report, it has been revealed that the Port of Oakland stands as the second largest job generator in Oakland and the fifth largest in Northern California, creating an impressive 98,345 local jobs. One of the standout speakers representing the Port of Oakland and Jack London Square in showcasing this economic vitality is none other than BRIDGEGOOD's Executive Director, Shaun Tai. In particular, Shaun Tai emphasized BRIDGEGOOD's pioneering programs focused on fostering jobs and skill development in the tech and design sectors. These initiatives have made a significant contribution to the growing job market in our community. The report highlights a substantial increase of 14,201 jobs, representing a remarkable 14% growth since the last report in 2017. Additionally, the study demonstrates that approximately one in four direct Port jobs are held by Oakland residents, underlining the significant positive impact on our local communities. The economic value generated by the Port of Oakland is truly impressive, with a total value of goods and services reaching a staggering $174 billion, up by 24% from 2017. This substantial economic contribution is a testament to the Port's role as a leading employer, providing good-paying union jobs that support the economic vitality and growth of our communities. Of particular note is the increase in jobs generated at Oakland International Airport (OAK), which is owned and operated by the Port of Oakland. This increase has not only driven economic growth but has also played a vital role in supporting the visitor-serving industry, generating an impressive 12,258 new jobs. BRIDGEGOOD's Shaun Tai and the Port of Oakland have illustrated their commitment to bolstering economic opportunities and fostering jobs in the tech and design sector.
