Nick's tale unfolds in New York, melding with the city's dynamic pace and culture, paralleling his deep Ecuadorian roots. Opting for a profound cultural immersion, his family moved to Ecuador, embarking on an 8-year transformative journey. Ecuador became a pivotal learning ground for Nick, enhancing his language skills and deepening familial connections. This phase culminated in his high school graduation, a milestone in his adaptability journey. Returning to the U.S., Nick pursued college at CGCC, initially exploring film production before a shift in interest towards fire science led him to Mesa Community College, aiming to become a wildland firefighter. Meanwhile, Nick joined Thumbs Up Moving Labor, where he thrived as a 'Master Mover,' embodying leadership and excellence alongside teammates Keon and Kenny. Nick's evolving career path and dedication to service propelled him towards a fire academy in California, aligning with his wildland firefighter aspirations. His journey, from New York's streets to the prospect of battling wildfires, underscores a life rich in growth and service. The eight fellows in this year’s cohort have been working and learning in placements at the Mayor’s Office, the Treasurer’s Office and the Board of Aldermen President’s Office in the City of St. Louis; the St. Louis Public Schools Foundation; the Missouri Charter Public School Association; BioSTL; the Cortex Innovation District; North County Inc.; and The SoulFisher Ministries, among others, since starting the program last September. They’re due to contribute roughly 10,000 hours combined working on different high-impact projects throughout their nine months in the program.

Super fun time speaking with current marketing students at University of Portland - including a few students I’ve previously had in class! Hopefully my hot takes weren’t too hot 😄 Some highlights: - Don’t blanket add people on LinkedIn; invest in relationships with contacts you make like you would anyone else! - Your grades don’t matter as much as your ability to demonstrate responsibility and follow through (which more often than not ends up being reflected in your grades anyways). - Leverage college as an opportunity to learn how to think critically and connect with folks who hold different perspectives and experiences than you. Empathy and wisdom will take your career higher and farther than solely focusing on being a high performer by yourself. We need to be able to serve alongside others!

As a father, I’m amazed at the life lessons I learn from observing my kids. This week I was able to take my 5-year-old, Piper, to her tumbling class. Here were a few of my observations: • During warm-ups she consistently stayed in front of the class, dialed in and treating everything as a “race”. • When learning a new technique, she was ALWAYS the first to raise her hand volunteering to try. What makes this even more inspiring to me, is this was only her 3rd week in the class since being moved up from a lower level. Not only was she leading, but among peers older and more experienced than she is. What did I learned watching my daughter Piper? 1 - You lead by example. Regardless of current title, tenure, or experience, leadership is reflective of actions. 2 - Be courageous and don’t let fears of failure or less experience prevent you from “raising your hand”. 3 - Life is about progression over perfection, and the only way you progress is by allowing yourself to experience the uncomfortable amidst imperfection. #SalesExcellence #CreateGrowth
