Today we will talk about collecting paintings in various painting styles - from bright and fresh impressionism to mysterious and mystical surrealism. Each of these styles has its own unique history and expressiveness. Impressionism is one of the most famous and popular styles in art. Artists of this movement sought to capture moments of light, color and atmosphere in their paintings. Impressionist works are often characterized by bright colors and dynamic brush strokes. Post-Impressionism developed from Impressionism and gave it new characteristics. Artists of this style, such as Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cézanne, experimented with color and form, creating works with more expressive geometry and texture. Fauvism and Cubism are styles that stand out for their abstraction and experimentation with form and color. Have often come across this question from my not so Art acquainted friends on why buying original Art from professional Artists is of more value than buying a canvas print when the intent is more to decor the space. We have briefly covered some of the not so unknown points both from aesthetics as well as commercial value. It’s also an answer to the recently hyped AI generated art vs hand painted works of professional Artists. We will cover this in another Article to also bring the other side of the story, on how professional artists are using the new technology as a base reference. However there is much more to hand painted works beyond aesthetics and commercials. The emotions and energy with which a professional artist skill-fully creates the work has much more to say beyond tangible benefits that can be attached to it. If all artists could see the crossroads of these celestial paths, if they could comprehend these monstrous runways and the weaving of our bodies with the clouds in the sky, then they would not paint chrysanthemums.” This resonates personal experience during Pandemic reflecting frequently a similar feeling of profound fear and ability to open wider doors to consciousness and subconscious mind. Sometimes we have a difficult time appreciating art that we don’t understand. Figurative art is the type of artwork that represents objects that we are familiar with in the physical world. When a piece is non-objective, it means that the artist’s goal is not to portray an image, but rather a feeling or experience, or just experiment with the abstract elements of art, like line, color, space or texture. Gunther Forg was a German artist whose career spanned many series of experimentations. Who likes being in the dark? We equate darkness with fear of the unknown, dangers lurking, increased anxiety and the inability to see. The monumental female figures characteristic in Robin F. Williams’ works are often frozen in time, caught in a perpetual state of questioning. Although the artist incorporates a wide variety of colors in this theme to contrast the tone, the expression on the figures portray a shared discomfort. I recently came across this Kinetic sculpture by U-Ram Choe which moves, unlike a normal statue. “Round Table” is a #kinetic #sculpture that features 18 headless straw figures that are all crouched down to hold on their backs a large black table. On top of the table is one single straw head and as the head rolls toward one edge the figure will try to claim it as its own. In the #process the head rolls further away. “It’s a game of no-win situation – where no one can assert their claims on the single head,” said U-Ram Choe, the #sculptor of this #masterpiece. The message conveyed by "Round Table" to life is superb in my perspective. It symbolizes the inherent #challenges and #uncertainties we face, where #success may seem elusive and #competition fierce. Despite our #efforts to assert our claims or #achieve our #goals, we often encounter obstacles that push us further away from our #desired #outcomes. In life, just like in the #sculpture, it's important to recognize that #winning isn't always the ultimate goal. Instead, it's about #embracing the #journey, #learning from #setbacks, and finding #fulfillment in the process rather than the outcome. The sculpture teaches us the value of #resilience, #adaptability, and #perseverance in the face of #adversity. It encourages us to approach #life with #creativity, #curiosity, and a #willingness to explore new #possibilities, even when the odds seem stacked against us. Ultimately, "Round Table" reminds us that life is a #dynamic and #ever #changing game, and our #ability to navigate its twists and turns with grace and resilience is what truly matters.
