Empowering Innovation: Coldsense Takes Flight in TRACES Program for Advancements in In-Flight Icing Research! Last week, we were proud participants in the TRACES program, a European Joint Doctorate initiative focused on advancing expertise in the field of in-flight icing. Hosted by Politecnico di Milano and organized by Professor Alberto Guardone, a leading expert in fluid dynamics at the Aeronautical Department, TRACES aims to cultivate a new generation of doctoral researchers to address icing-related challenges in aircraft and aero-engines. The program proved to be an invaluable platform for fostering collaborations between industry and academia. Engaging lectures spanned various aviation sectors, delving into topics ranging from fixed-wing aircraft icing to engine icing. Coldsense joined forces with industry leaders such as GE Aerospace, AIRBUS, SAFRAN, LEONARDO, DASSAULT Aviation, and esteemed academic institutions including Politecnico di Milano, TUBS, TUDA, ONERA, and ECPOL. Stephan Bansmer, visiting professor at Politecnico di Milano and co-founder of Coldsense, delivered a comprehensive lecture on "Flying in Icing Conditions," showcasing our commitment to remaining at the forefront of industry knowledge and best practices. EASA's 2019 annual report identified in-flight icing as a priority issue for large airplanes due to the potential disruptions in air operations and aircraft maintenance. This underscores the critical need for ongoing research in this field. Our consulting engineers, Niccolò Oberti and Mina Salehi Marani, actively participated in TRACES, enriching their expertise in the complex realm of icing. Their involvement highlights Coldsense's dedication to continuous learning and growth in our ever-evolving industry. Bernoulli's principle is a basic idea in how fluids, like air, behave. It says that when the speed of a fluid increases, the pressure it exerts decreases. ✈️✈️✈️ 🚀✨ The Theory in Action: Lift Generation in Aircraft One of the most remarkable applications of Bernoulli's principle is in the generation of lift that allows aircraft to soar through the skies. The wings of an aircraft are carefully designed to take advantage of this principle and create the necessary lift to overcome gravity. ✅ Here's a simplified explanation of this awe-inspiring process: 1️⃣ Shape and Angle: Aircraft wings are designed with a unique shape called an airfoil, featuring a curved upper surface and a flatter lower surface. Moreover, they have a slight upward angle, known as the angle of attack, which can be adjusted by the pilot. 2️⃣ Differential Air Pressure: As an aircraft moves through the air, the shape and angle of the wing cause the air above the wing to travel a longer distance and at a higher speed compared to the air beneath it. According to Bernoulli's principle, this results in lower pressure above the wing and higher pressure below it. 3️⃣ Lift Force: The pressure difference between the upper and lower surfaces of the wing creates a net upward force known as lift. This force counteracts the gravitational pull on the aircraft, allowing it to become airborne and maintain flight. 🌟✅ Implications and Advancements Understanding and applying Bernoulli's principle to aviation has revolutionized the industry, enabling the development of faster, more efficient, and safer aircraft. 🚁 #HeliExpo2024 came to end ! The lights have shaded over the Anaheim convention center, we packed the exhibitions stuffs back ! That’s a wrap ! Again a G.R.E.A.T. edition .. lots of contacts and discussions, some scheduled and some totally unexpected but promising ! Lots of friends seen again as well, sometime back to yeaars … ! That’s not the least as our community is passionnate and passionating … Would be much too long … and anyway restrictive to name them but for the show, hats off to James Viola, Nicole Battjes, Thierry Couderc, Fredrik Kämpfe 🟢 etc. but also Frank Dr. Liemandt / Charles Popper / Katie White preparing EUROPEAN ROTORS ! Almost sold out ! Well done … One thing I noticed : the growing offering of firefighting equipment ! It’s welcomed to win the war against wildfires to insure a rapid and efficient vertical attack, awaiting heavier waterbombers ! Time is then of essence and helicopters may make the difference ! It’s also a matter of sustainability as we should protect our nature !! Last but not least … thrilled to see our EMAs flying soon on two new and major disruptive programs … one rotary wings and … one on fixed wings to avoid any jalousy ;) Together we are building the future of a greener and cleaner aviation: our fault-tolerant and high-density / high-perf electric actuators are intrinsically saving weight while allowing a better monitoring and dispatch availability… challenges are numerous but we prove that we can tackle them, even on most critical functions : #swashplate, tilting mechanisms, landing and braking, flight controls, FLIR and search gimbals … Any doubts ?! "📢 Just wrapped up an incredible session on aircraft interior acoustics at DAGA (German Acoustical Society) today! 🛩️🎧 I had the privilege of presenting our #Active_noise_reduction Experiment measurement results and test setup from groundbreaking research conducted at the Automotive and Aeronautical Engineering @HAW Hamburg HCAT, Hamburg Center of Aviation Training . 🚀🔬 We focused on tonal noise of low frequency using Active noise control system in the cabin. 🌟 The conference was a perfect platform to exchange knowledge and ideas with fellow experts in the field of #Acoustic. 🤝✨ I'm immensely grateful to my brilliant co-authors, Mr. Dipl. Ing.
