🌐 Reflecting on DODIIS Worldwide 2023 🌐 The DODIIS Worldwide 2023 Conference, held from December 12th to 14th at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon, was an insightful event, embodying the theme "Chaos to Clarity." Set against the backdrop of Portland's vibrant '90s culture and its contrasting issues of poverty, homelessness, and drug addiction, the conference was a poignant reminder of the complex world we navigate. While the conference felt scaled down compared to previous years, reflecting broader economic challenges, the focus on crucial themes remained undiminished. The necessity of strong partnerships across allied countries, industry, academia, and national labs was a recurring message, highlighting the critical role of collaboration in addressing global issues. The conference also reinforced the Intelligence Community's (IC) role as a fundamentally data-centric organization, emphasizing the importance of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) and Zero Trust Architecture. A significant part of the discussions revolved around the People's Republic of China (PRC) as a pacing challenger in strategic competition, underscoring the urgency in addressing the emerging threats and complexities in global defense. The Machine-Assisted Analytic Rapid-Repository System (MARS), while a notable topic in the past, was given less prominence this year, possibly due to its development challenges and shifting timelines. Above all, DODIIS Worldwide 2023 highlighted the invaluable role of its participants. The opportunity for networking remained a crucial element, with valuable discussions from organizations like Peraton, Northrop Grumman, and Second Front. The expo provided an excellent platform for learning about the capabilities of various industry partners and their potential contributions to the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. In conclusion, DODIIS Worldwide 2023, though somewhat constrained in scale, successfully maintained its focus on critical discussions and networking. The event highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts and a data-driven approach in intelligence and defense, especially in the context of the escalating strategic competition with the PRC, encapsulating the theme of moving from "Chaos to Clarity." A few days ago, my friend Nicholas Filippi and I decided to participate in the "Mission TTX 2023 Hackathon" under the name of "i Sensei." What initially started as a casual endeavor for spending quality time together quickly evolved into a serious commitment. We invested a substantial amount of effort into our project. The event revolved around a tabletop exercise (TTX) that explored the complex intersection of space and cybersecurity. Participants assumed the roles of decision-makers responsible for identifying, diagnosing, and responding to a simulated space cyber attack. This challenge required expertise in various domains, including cybersecurity, space engineering, policy, and law. The event was crafted as a dynamic and ever-evolving scenario. New elements were introduced every 30 to 60 minutes, adding intricacy and excitement to the narrative. Upon the event's conclusion, we were amazed to find that we had authored more than nine pages of responses to over 40 technical questions. What began as a simple game had transformed into a rigorous test of our abilities, gaining recognition from the judging panel as the top entry in this edition, securing 🎊the first-place position .🎉👨🚀 🚀 This experience showcased the remarkable collaboration between an engineer (Nicholas) and a lawyer (myself), demonstrating the extraordinary results that can be achieved through such synergy.I extend my heartfelt gratitude to @Giulia De Rossi(the Event Manager and Cybersecurity Project Group co-lead at SGAC), Alejandro Guzmán López, the @Space Generation Advisory Council, @AIAA, @Cybersecurity Working Group (ACWG), @Space ISAC, @NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, @Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and @Cornell Aerospace Adversary Lab for making this journey possible. #MissionControlTTXHackathon #Hackathon2023 #ASCEND2023

Morning Seminar in Alpbach My days @ #EuropeanForumAlpbach were very well timed => {Morning_Seminar; Lunch_Break; Afternoon_Seminar; Evening_Party;} and this happened in a loop from August 20th until 24th 🗓. Every day from 9h00 to 12h30 I had to chew thought after thought in the seminar "Europe's Struggle for Technological Sovereignty and Prosperity". I must admit Simona R. Soare, you ushered me into thoughts that I, despite being an IT-student 👩💻, felt myself overwhelmed. To be more clear, for me as a student it was very important that I wrote clean code , but you dear Simona R. Soare woke me up from my SMALL world 💻 and showed me the BIG picture 🖼. Additionally, with the interactive speeches from Ian Goldin, Joe Burton, Hans Peter Lankes and Joseph Stiglitz I came to following understandings: 0) what is the definition of "emerging technology"? 1) where does Europe stand in the world's map when it comes to technological sovereignty? 2) do we (Europeans) seek technological sovereignty and in which extend? 3) what needs to be done to reach (more) sovereignty for a BOLDER Europe? 4) how does the cybersecurity landscape look like in Europe and in the world? 5) is our European technology green enough? Now that was a lot of inputs 💡 To still be honest, my take-away from the "morning-brain-fitness-hours" (short morning seminar) is: THE BIG PICTURE. And I wholeheartedly thank all the speakers for their efforts 👏 You opened my eyes, and open it may stay ... #efa #boldeurope
