Everything is F❗️💥🤬ed - but I’m having a good time anyway. 🤷♂️ Why!? If you’re in the film and television industry like I am, you know what a challenging year it has been. Pullbacks on spending 💰🔙, box office slumps 😔 (Hi Disney!), and two strikes. 😡 This is an industry of endurance and longevity. We are running a marathon, not a race. 🏃♀️ Well, not me - I hate running unless I’m being chased by something. 🔪 But let me repeat that - This is a business of ENDURANCE. For those who buckle down and are smart financially - we will remain in the game. We will be left standing when others have fallen. Film and TV is a tough business and always has been. Therefore, it is not for the weak. Those who can last and tough it out to the other side with scars, but still alive, will be heavily in demand. In an attempt to catch up, studios will green-light content like the start of a NASCAR race. 🏎 At the same time, there will be fewer experienced professionals left standing. Enter supply and demand. Hang in there. Rest up. 😴 Try and enjoy this time as best you can. Because the work is coming like a freight train, 🚂 and you’ll need your stamina. 👍 #film #television #televisionproduction #filmproduction #streaming #strike #wgastrike #sagaftrastrike #entertainment #entertainmentindustry

President @ McFalls Technical Solutions, Inc. | Lean Manufacturing, Operations Management, Software Development
I just watched Indiana Jones on The Walt Disney Company streaming service #disneyplus. Disney+ is now the third most popular streaming service after Netflix and Prime Video & Amazon Studios. Content is king, and Disney is doing what they can to have great content. Indiana Jones is Disney's attempt at making great content and expanding their service. I love movies. I love the storytelling and character arcs and the plot and the conflicts. In this case, the ending needed a better story. Not to spoil it, but Indiana Jones wakes up disappointed. A different ending could have been a great character arc where it ends the story of Indiana Jones with a real bang. It could have ended with Helena exploring and finding a historic hieroglyphic with Archimedes and an unknown figure in the background. Who is the mystery figure? Helena figures out it was Indiana Jones ... fade to black. Storytelling is important. It's important in Hollywood, and it's important in business. It's not enough to answer a question. It's way more important to tell a story that describes the characters, context, conflict, changes, and conclusion so people can be inspired by what the future will look like. As I try to tell stories now, I'm adding too many words and rambling too much. I'm not being clear, concise, or compelling - I'm just worried about being correct. It's irritating. I have to get better at storytelling. I'm not a natural storyteller, and, for me, it takes a lot of practice. Great leaders know how to tell great stories. They know how to communicate in ways that are motivating and where people can imagine a better future. Whether it's introducing a new product or implementing a process change, you can motivate people by giving them a clear vision of the problem, solution, and the result. Storytelling is an underrated leadership skill.

Every so often, a pickup shoot is required for commercials. One key to efficient pickups (or any shoot, really) is to ask yourself, "What does the camera see?" (A Jordan Brady classic #CommercialDirector voodoo tip). For this year's ReliaQuest spot, we needed two shots in our pickup. One was a busy city shot, the other was an over-the-shoulder phone shot that happens at a soccer game. No one wants a company move if we can help it, so we brought in a roll of turf, keeping our pickup at one location. Win-win! #advertising #Commercialdirecting

Competition is driving force in my life - From playful races in grade school to swim meets in college, and leading academic programs at UCI, I've always thrived on the thrill of competition. Game nights are no exception… Today, I finished watching "Brawn: The Impossible F1 Story," and it's a must-see, especially for those not familiar with Formula 1. The documentary focuses on the Brawn GP team, a chapter in F1 history that unfolded before I became an avid fan of the Mercedes Petronas AMG F1 team. The storytelling charisma of Keanu, and the team behind this documentary is a reminder of why competition is so captivating. Here are the three key insights I took away from Brawn GP #Diversity Fuels Innovation: Mina (Masayuki Minagawa) played a crucial role by interpreting new aerodynamic rules uniquely. This led to the creation of a split diffuser under the car, giving Brawn GP a massive edge in the ground effect era. Prioritizing Long-Term Gains Over Short-Term Losses: As a team principal, Brawn's strategic brilliance was unparalleled. He made the bold decision to focus on the 2009 season, sacrificing the 2008 season to escape Honda's overpowering influence. This gamble paid off, leading to a nail-biting championship win against Red Bull, thanks to the innovative double diffuser. As a quick recap - Brawn himself helped Michael Schumacher win 5 consecutive titles at Ferrari The Power of Small Operations: Brawn GP's story exemplifies how small organizations can upend giants. By operating leanly and efficiently – albeit through some tough decisions – they demonstrated a level of effectiveness rarely seen. The principles set by key players like James Vowel (now team principal at Williams) and James Allison (chief aerodynamicist at Mercedes) ultimately led to their acquisition by Mercedes, bringing an era of unprecedented success. 8 world constructors titles and 8* drivers titles. Above all, "Brawn: The Impossible F1 Story" is a testament to the power of never giving up. The Brawn GP team's relentless pursuit of excellence, driving with heart and passion to the finish line, is a lesson in the unyielding spirit of competition…
