This Memorial Day weekend, I am deeply grateful for the sacrifices made by the men and women who gave their lives for our freedoms. Consider these two contrasting scenarios: 1. Today, we wake up with food readily accessible, cars that take us anywhere we want, and the convenience of modern technology. We often find ourselves complaining about trivial inconveniences like bad coffee or a messy house, and we get frustrated when our WiFi isn’t working. 2. Imagine waking up to the sound of a trumpet or sirens overhead. You quickly put on your clothes and boots, not your favorite sneakers. There’s no time to scroll through Instagram or catch up with friends. Instead, you see your comrade next to you, knowing your day is about protecting each other, facing the very real threat of death. Scenario 2 is the reality that allows us to enjoy the freedoms and comforts of scenario 1. This Memorial Day, let's remember and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Thank you…. May the two numbers on our tombstone allow us time you have given us to make the (dash “-“) count.

Key take aways for me: It's important to understand that poverty is commonly defined by income level. In 2021, a household of three people that had a combined income of less than $21,559 was considered to be in poverty. (Why is this a key take away for me? Because people use the terms #poor and #poverty interchangeably and they aren't. The word poor conjures up one of two images 1.) The #welfarequeen stereotype - "welfare queen" refers to women who misuse or collect excessive welfare benefits through #fraud, #childendangerment or #manipulation 2.) The definition of the word, when applied to people instantly frames them as less than and introduces - even subconsciously- the idea of "deserving" and "undeserving" poor. poor 1. lacking sufficient money to live at a standard considered comfortable or normal in a society. 2. worse than is usual, expected, or desirable; of a low or inferior standard or quality. "many people are eating a very poor diet") As of 2019, the last year with complete data, the median wealth of Black households was just $9,000—compared to $160,000 for white people. (Black people men and women are over represented in #lowwage positions and that is due to #systemicracism - something in 2023, we habe trouble actually saying on a public stage.) In 1961, African Americans had 12 cents for every dollar of wealth of non-Black Americans. By 2019, that figure had risen to just 18 cents. The American Housing and Economic Mobility Act would invest $445 billion in a national Housing Trust Fund to help first-time home buyers in formerly redlined or segregated areas. And legislation like the American Opportunity Act, which would seed federal "baby bond" accounts for all children, could rapidly reduce racial inequality while easing poverty for all Americans. Reparations targeted to the African American community offer the most direct and cost-efficient means to move our country beyond the racial wealth divide upon which it was founded. (The #Decendants Documentary is the single strongest argument for reparations black people have right now. Whereas most black people in this country are hard pressed to identify their enslaved ancestors, the descendants of the slave ship #Clotilda have definitive proof of who their #ancestors are, how they got to America, who was responsible, how the slave holders benefited from their labor, the period of time which they labored 1860-1865, what happened to them at the end of the civil war, and where they ended up #AfricaTown. The story of the former slaves was documented and recorded by ZoraNealHurston in 1927 and the people lived well into the 40s. Their stories are contemporary to our lives. My neighbor was born in 1943. Theirs is a clearly documented story yet there's all kinds of people scrambling to monetized their story but the people are still trying to do what they've been doing, seek justice for their ancestors and that's the one thing in which no one else seems to be interested.

Financial Coach | Launching Entrepreneurs to Prosperity | Create Accelerated Business Growth Strategies to Expand Small Businesses
This Memorial Day, as we remember the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom, it’s a poignant time to reflect on the legacies we create and the memories we cherish. It’s a day to honor sacrifice and to think about the impact of legacy—how actions and decisions resonate beyond a lifetime. In remembrance, we can also consider how we manage our own legacies through the choices we make every day. While today is about those who made the ultimate sacrifice, it’s also a reminder for all of us about the importance of planning and ensuring a secure future for our loved ones. It’s a tribute to foresight, responsibility, and the care we take to safeguard what matters most. As you spend today in reflection, consider how you’re shaping your legacy. On this day of remembrance, let’s honor those who have gone before us by living with intention and purpose. #MemorialDay

Sanjiv Patel over at Hoolock making GenAI for good also fun!!! Check out my latest artwork created on this platform meant for philanthropy and awareness efforts, on Veterans Day. Thank you to Veterans who have shown courage and sacrifice. Considering the existing polarization and heightened tension in our environments, I find myself holding on to my American values, and never taking freedom, liberty or justice for granted. As a Muslim, Pakistani American woman, working in data, I am strongly supporting advocacy in all my non profit volunteering efforts to promote #inclusion, #diversity #neurodiversity for all; special focus on #minority and #indigenous representation... primarily equal access to education and healthcare + mental health. Both within the United States and in Pakistan (where I'm originally from). To achieve the values of liberty and justice, for all. As a #datagovernance professional, I am starting to see that the data doesn't lie. And, it isn't looking good. Examples include recent findings of disproportionate disadvantages faced by minorities and people of color, i.e. the global pandemic, #climate impacts in the Global South, displacement, #discrimination, hate-crime and unfortunately, war/conflict. It is incumbent on us, to do this advocacy work now, to come to terms with our state of data (the good and bad), nudge towards removal of bias, inclusion of what is not represented or erased in historic records, and walk towards a world of unbiased future of gen AI. There is no denial. We have a lot of work to do to. Each one of us has to become an advocate. My tribute: The Advocate. #advocacy #visionaryleadership #genAI

As someone who is heavily focused on growing both personally and professional, collaboration is a key part of that journey. I not only want to BE that person to help other, I want to HAVE others help me. We are not meant to walk through life alone. One of the ways I do that is by teaching women ways to reduce stress in both their mind and their bodies, so that they can move through their days in a healthier way as well process any 'stories' they may be telling themselves that are keeping them stuck in self-judgement, fear or overwhelm. It's one of my all-time favorite tools to share. #collaboration #LivingATHENA #leadership #awareness #knowledge #efttapping #stress #anxiety

💐 Our mothers and their mothers probably never talked about collaboration but they practiced it ― quilting bees, helping with children, nursing ailing loved ones, joining forces ― all inclinations as old as civilization itself. Collaboration is about the WE as opposed to the I. Helping others find their power doesn’t diminish our own. ATHENA leaders Collaborate. #MothersDay #LivingATHENA #WomenInspiringWomen #EffectiveLeadership
