Every summer, Intrinsic participates in a Diversity in Finance internship with Denver Public Schools. Having the opportunity to spend time with high school students, teaching them about finance and accounting, has been amazing and rewarding in more ways than one. This year, we were awarded with the Launch Partner of the year award. We are honored and excited to continue making this program what it is and would like to say thank you to our partners involved in the program as well as our own Intrinsic crew, who help make this an impactful and successful internship year after year! We look forward to staying involved within our community!

We have our summer intern already on week two. Every Friday he has to report on the project that he's responsible for. He makes us aware of urgent items and things needing action. We have different people on our team that work with him on different parts of his project. That way he's accountable for his work while getting exposure to working with everyone on our team including Grant La Bounty, Chris Vassilian and Jeannette Cano. That gives him experience from four different points of view. But ultimately, we make sure one person is responsible for his success and so that he knows who he can turn to when thinking about future direction without ambiguity. This will be the second year of working with other industry partners to collaborate on meetings together so that our interns get to meet their interns and make new contacts. How do you manage your summer interns? How do you make the most of the summer for them and for your team all at the same time?

Once again this year, the BLX Internship Program has a major problem on its hands: Too many talented, diverse interns and not enough firms to take them on. The program was founded in late 2020 by a group of four advisors who wanted to see the industry more accurately reflect the nation it serves. Known as BLX for short, the organization's goal is to provide an opportunity for underrepresented financial planners to secure internships at independent financial planning firms. "Unfortunately, we won't be able to place every applicant because we just don't have that many firms," co-founder Luis Rosa said. "The way it's looking with the number of applications, even if half are qualified applicants, we're still only able to place about a fraction of the qualified applicants."
