HOW HIGH IS HIGH? PART II. TIME AND RISK AGAIN. Many in the investment world-professionals and not so professionals-have pronounced of late: "This Time Is Different." Meaning: Due to the AI frenzy and the amount of funds sitting in money market, " stocks will not go down." While AI will be successful, there are many potentially unrealistic expectations that could be driving the major AI related stocks higher. The longer term track record of the stock market remains very impressive, but not ever investor has "time on their side." This period reminds me of certain aspects of the Dot.com bubble that reached a high on March 24, 2000. Back then it was also "This Time is Different." After a very long advance that many believed began with the 1987 crash and ended in March 2000 and returned an incredible average of 41% annually, the S&P declined 43% and the Nasdaq declined 80% within two years. Each took 15 years to recover to their prior highs. Not everyone had time on their side who sat through that decline. I did and it wasn't pleasant. Neither I nor anyone knows when a correction or another "bear market" will begin-lots of guesses though from the "experts" in print, online and on business television. Yet most remain in the camp of "This Time Is Different." It's Not. " A lesson I learned early is that there is nothing new on Wall Street because speculation is as old as the hills. Whatever happens in the stock market today has happened before and will happen again." ( " Reminiscences of a Stock Operator". Edwin Lefevre aka Jesse Livermore. 1923). Time and risk will always be interwoven. Those who do not have the time might be more cautious in here.

Global markets record best start to the year since 2019 Global stock markets have had their best start to the year in five years, thanks to investor enthusiasm over AI and anticipation of a soft landing in the US. An MSCI index of global stocks has gained 7.7% in the first quarter, the most since 2019. Stocks have also outperformed bonds by the biggest margin since 2020. Nvidia accounted for about one-fifth of the total gain for global stock markets in Q1. https://lnkd.in/dghaBVQf

These losses, along with the shift in sentiment, threaten to undermine the generally positive market outlook that was established during the strong bullish run earlier this year. At the same time, not every stock sector is performing poorly. Therefore, you should not let opportunities pass you by.
