Rowing can help to build muscular strength in several ways. Some of the ways that rowing can help to build muscular strength include: Targeting multiple muscle groups: Rowing involves the use of multiple muscle groups, including the arms, shoulders, back, core, and legs. This full-body workout can help build muscular strength and improve overall muscle tone. Providing a challenging workout: Rowing can be a challenging workout, as it requires the use of large muscle groups to generate power and maintain good technique. This challenging workout can help build muscular strength and improve muscle endurance. Using resistance training: Rowing involves the use of resistance, as the water provides resistance to the movement of the oars. This resistance training can help build muscular strength and improve muscle size and definition. Incorporating variety: Rowing can be done on a rowing machine or in a boat, and can also be done using different intensities and durations. This variety can help challenge the muscles in different ways and can help build muscular strength and improve muscle adaptability. Overall, rowing can provide a full-body workout that can help build muscular strength and improve overall muscle tone.

Better Backstroke Many swimmers think backstroke is “upside-down” freestyle. Not quite! Freestyle and backstroke do however have alternating arm strokes based on the long-axis of the body. Here are some important tips for improving your backstroke. Body position: Close to horizontal with eyes looking up at 90 degrees and head stable during all motion. Body roll: Rotation of ~40 degrees about the long axis of the body occurring during each arm recovery and propulsion. Trunk rotation starts with the hips. The non-stroking shoulder should end up well above the water line. (See attached image) Propulsion: Hand enters in line with shoulder with arm extended. The stroke-side shoulder rolls towards the entry arm. Palm faces outward on entry with little finger slicing in. In the middle of the stroke the elbow bends. The hand pushes towards the feet as the hips and trunk roll back/upwards to the surface. The swimmer aims to give the hand maximum "hold" on the water during the stroke. Recovery: The arm must remain straight but relaxed. Thumb-first exit into recovery. After the arm reaches vertical the weight of the arm carries it downwards (i.e. it drops without effort) remaining straight (the body roll helps the shoulder joint allow a straight arm entry). Flutter Kick: A six-beat kick keeps the hips high. The upwards phase of the kick uses hip flexion and knee extension to provide propulsion ending in a whip-like foot motion. Dolphin Kick: Allowed for 15m distance off each turn. The upper body remains streamlined, whilst the legs and feet undergo a fast whip-like motion. Breathing: Maintain regular breathing - e.g. inhale as one arm recovers, exhale during the next arm recovery. #backstroke #swimmingtechnique #swimming #swimmingstroke #streamline #longaxis #swimmingteacher #swimmingcoach 🏊♂️ 🏊♀️ good swimming!

Specific Development Exercises (SDE) - Some you’ve never seen ⬇️ These exercises are designed to enhance performance by aligning training with the specific demands of the sport - high dynamic correspondence. CAUTION: It’s crucial to remember that these movements should comprise a relatively limited percentage of total training. Before incorporating these exercises, a thorough audit is essential to ensure they truly transfer to improved performance rather than degrade it. One approach involves the utilization of electromyography (EMG) to confirm that motor patterns and muscle activation percentages align with the requirements of the sport. For example, in the video, we've utilized EMG to confirm that the specific development exercises align with the athlete's competition movement of skiing in moguls. #SportsScience #DynamicCorrespondence #AthleteDevelopment #TrainingOptimization #SportsPerformance
