🌟 Reflecting on an enriching experience at the George Fox conference in NYC, organized by the Underground Construction Association of Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration Inc. (SME) 🌟 Last week was an incredible opportunity to delve deep into the world of underground projects and infrastructure. Here are some key takeaways that I'm excited to share with my esteemed connections: 🔍 Vast Scope of Underground Projects: The conference shed light on the sheer scale and complexity of underground projects, emphasizing their critical role in daily life, from providing essential utilities like drinking water to facilitating transportation networks via roads and rails. 💰 Significant Financial Stakes: The magnitude of process and operations in underground projects was eye-opening, with massive financial investments at stake. It highlighted the need for meticulous planning and execution to ensure project success. Insights from projects like the Hudson Tunnel Project and the Fredrick Douglass Tunnel Program provided invaluable context. 🛠️ Insights into Construction Techniques: I gained valuable insights into the construction of shafts and the critical role soil plays in designing and selecting the right types of machines, such as Galloways and TBMs (Tunnel Boring Machines). Concepts like progressive design build, ground freezing, controlled blasting, and drilling operations were particularly enlightening. 📖 New Learnings: One of the highlights was discovering a new term, 'ADIT,' which added to my vocabulary and understanding of underground engineering. 🤝 Networking with Industry Experts: It was a privilege to connect with experts and industry professionals from renowned organizations such as Amtrak, AECOM, WSP in the U.S., STV, The Walsh Group - Walsh Construction & Archer Western and HNTB, who generously shared their insights and experiences. Leadership is the key for a successful safe project.

When was the last time entire human race came together to achieve one goal? I am alluding to the famous NetZero by 2050. This time around, political and geographical divides could not keep us from collectively joining forces to safeguard Mother Earth. There are many entities that may have initially misinterpreted this environmental challenge as a financially driven technology race. As we advance, we are all realizing that this a collaborative movement we either lose or win together :) Most analysts and experts today agree that there is no one solution that can get us there. Wait, but what if there is one? Each minute we invest in less effective solutions is a minute and dollar taken away from paving and walking on a more robust path to a Carbon Neutral future. A path that may not require complete overhaul of existing energy infrastructure. What if there is one winning solution for each industrial sector we can focus on?
