Can a brush with death make you a better business person? It did for John Puryear. Running the business he started with his wife in the early 90’s, John had a revelation after a massive heart attack in 2015. He realized things had to change with the way the business ran. Too much of it was centered around him and not enough around the employees and customers. Thus began a journey that transformed the way Puryear Farms, Inc. operated. Now, since implementing the changes John realized needed to take place, the company has grown by 140%. In this episode, John shares a lot of wisdom. How Much Did They First Pay You To Give Up On Your Dreams? - a "Coffee with Colm" Classic   Ouch! “Hurtful, Colm.” I hear some of you whimper. Well, let me ask the question in a slightly different way, “What Happened You Between 15 and 40?” Or 50, or 60, or… what happened? Teenagers the world over are bulletproof given the right conditions. The hubris of youth is both a joy to behold, and a mild sort of amusement as those of us with longer teeth shake our worldly heads in an “Ah. Bless.” kind of way.   But how many teens bursting with energy, confidence, and ideas have managed to maintain even a hint of the glory days by the time they reach 40? Very few.   I was one. Perhaps you were one?   And, do you know what? It’s ok. The important thing is to realise you can start over. I did. I still do, regularly. The concept of communal living is not new: the oldest way of living is living in a village. For Kimmo Rönkä, communal living means bringing the village back to the city. He even uses the word urban village instead of suburb. After the COVID-19 pandemic, people realised that we actually need our homes to be more than just places to sleep.
