The need to help those with combat stress isn't new and isn't going away.
Sunday 30th Jul 2023 "Our diverse and unequal world is riven with political, ethical, economic and religious difference, which, at its extremes, has forever spilled out into military action. Lawrence Keeley estimated that 90-95 per cent of societies engage in wars. Cautious estimates suggest that almost 15,000 wars "have taken place between 3500 B C E and the late 20thcentury, costing 3.5 billion lives, leaving only 300 years of peace". This is borne out by archaeological record, which is rich in the monumental structures and remains of conflict, from Iron Age hillforts, medieval castles and Cold War listening stations, to battlefields and cemeteries filled with those who have died a violent death. Conquest and subjugation are familiar partners in the fall and disappearance of culture." Chapter 4 - War - "Amongst the ruins: Why Civilisations Collapse and Communities Disappear" by John Darlington.
