For companies hiring in the midst of laying off employees, what gives? Did you hold an internal job fair to see if any of the impacted employees could fulfill your existing job openings? Could you have cross-trained them in a different department that has vacancies? Don't you want someone that knows your internal systems, processes, and overall workflow to be considered for those open positions? If your company is big enough to continue to be hiring, while firing, your company should have an internal HR or Recruiting team that specifically focuses on reallocating employees from departments that are laying off. Life chronicles. I started my professional career in Human Resources over 20 years ago as an HR Assistant. Little did I know that this entry level job in the hospitality industry would be a defining moment in my professional career. My professional career started shortly after graduating from Texas State University, in fact they were hosting a diversity career fair and yes attending a job fair worked, and I eventually got the job! The Director of HR, for the boutique hotel in Lakeway, Texas, interview me on the spot and asked me a series of rapid-fire questions to get to know me a little better. I remember doing well on some questions, remember getting defensive about why she would ask others and felt not fully prepared for some of her very direct questions. If you can relate, leave a support or celebrate below. Little did I know that I would eventually become really proficient at interviewing both as the interviewer and interviewee. As an interviewer, I have been a pre-screener, A-Z recuiter, international recruiter, hiring manager, executive pre-screener and facilitator for panel interviews. Over those 20 years I can imagine I have personally conducted over 8,000 plus interviews. Is that truly possible?
