Business Operations Leader | I build and grow high-performing organizations | Program Management, Workforce Planning + Org Design, Data Analysis + Automation

It’s been almost a week since I received the email telling me I was one of the recent #AWSlayoffs. What strikes me most right now is the scariest part of being laid off is also the most exciting: uncertainty. With kids to support and a dog with refined taste in the furniture he prefers to desecrate, the scary part is obvious. The exciting bit is the blank canvas and palette of options alongside—where to take my knowledge and skills, now further honed after almost 3 years leading business operations for a large org at AWS? One advantage to spending time in different industries—the last 8 years of which in tech; politics, international relations, and media before that—is the breadth of possibilities: I am keeping my options open. So please don’t hesitate to reach out if we crossed paths previously, or even if we haven’t; if you have an immediate or upcoming potential fit, or even if you don’t. Regardless, it’s always great to hear from old friends and colleagues and catch up. Thank you to the many who already have reached out and, in advance, to those who see this and like or comment to boost its reach or send me a message in response; it means a lot. To the team I leave behind: Shaye Swanson, Lindsay Scott, Ed Weston, PMP, and Nate Cusick—you are all rockstars with unique skillsets that you apply to the benefit of AWS and its customers daily. It was a pleasure leading and learning from you. The best part of managing is watching the folks on your team develop their skills, apply them effectively, and succeed as a result. I can’t wait to watch from afar the continued success I’m sure you will all realize. And, as for me, I am resolved (at least in the fullness of time) to ensure this is a blessing.
