Can you spot my filming/editing tell? 👀 Here's a hint: 🤳 One of the most common indicators for when I've filmed and/or edited a video is the shots of people on their phones. I prefer shots where there is movement, action, or emotion- and sometimes during ceremonies and presentations, those moments are not always accessible. So, when everyone is taking celebratory photos with their family and friends, it doesn't make much sense for me to just film them posing. They're usually standing as still as possible, and my zooming in on their slow motion blinking won't add anything to the video. So, I widen the perspective to show the phone, some plants, the people. It creates a depth of field and makes the movement more dynamic. More importantly, it establishes a connection between two parties on screen. Now it's not just a person posing, but someone smiling towards their partner, parents, or friends. It adds to the narrative of "we are celebrating together" and "there are people that are proud of me." This same emotion carries over when I am filming people in the audience film their loved ones (filmception anyone?). You don't have to see their face to know that person is proud of whoever is walking across that stage. So if you ever notice me lurking behind you while holding a camera, I promise it's not to read your text messages. I'm just trying to capture the energy between you and someone else. #videography #videoediting #eventvideography

Today I was given the opportunity to listen and learn from one of Nursing's greatest thought leaders - Dr. Jean Watson. Every #nurse learns about her theory of human caring in nursing school! She spoke to Nursing PhD and DNP students from Texas Woman's University about healthcare today and how the 10 Caritas processes can be incorporated in nurse's profession and discipline. The ANA beautifully interwove the principles in the most up to date definition of Nursing. Below are some key takeaways from today’s presentation: 1. Compassion for oneself is the foundation from which we can have compassion for others. As such, #transforminghealthcare is essential to create space for nurses to care for themselves and develop environments of healing. 2. If we focus on the problems, the problems will only get bigger! But if we pivot and focus on solutions, creative opportunities will abound! I could not help but get SUPER excited as this is at the heart of #innovation. 3. The heart and science of #Nursingcare honors human dignity. Recognizing individuals want to thrive (not just live!) must become essential to our clinical decision making. The meaning a person associates with their health (instead of a diagnosis alone) provides opportunity to live life more richly and nurses advocate for this! 4. How can #augmentedintelligence interweave the caritas principles into all aspects of planning for a healing environment, from the individual person to the health system level? Loved that this was brought up as it is an amazing, forward thinking perspective. #nursesonlinkedin

Nursing is often about perfect action. There isn’t much room for error. But, not every part of nursing or your career should be expected to be perfect. Page 152 is one of my favorite pages of Nursing Wisely. I followed the traditional path of degree> med-surg> ER> ICU> leadership> Master’s> NP. Then finally, entrepreneur and author. I wish the last two had come earlier. The creativity involved would have saved me a lot of feelings of despair, but so long as I was not stagnating in my career I knew it was a matter of time before I found my niche. I hope reading Nursing Wisely will inspire you to find your unique path with ease and creativity. How are you keeping creativity alive in your nursing career? #nurse #innovation #creativity
