These meetings have the objective to prevent waste, save precious resources, protect the environment and offer practical tips for sustainable lifestyles. Repairing together does not mean in this case a "free repair service", but collectively self organized help. 3️⃣ Arup is a global collective of designers, consultants and experts dedicated to sustainable development. Hamburg have joined forces to launch the Circular City Challenge 2023. This initiative, supported by Stuttgarter Klima-Innovationsfonds, aims to drive the transformation towards a sustainable urban system. The cities of Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Vienna, and the municipalities of Zeuthen, Ringsheim and Kreis Lippe will collaborate in the search for innovative solutions in the field of the circular economy. City representatives will support innovators in adapting their solutions to local needs. Between 01.08.2023 and 01.10.2023, companies and organizations with innovative Circular Economy solutions can submit their applications. Last week I attended the historic Urban Sky Lab exhibition at Arcam, where designers explored airspace organization for the first time. Three visionary teams delved into drones' potential in shaping future cities, sparking discussions on safety, efficiency, and sustainability. Grateful for the opportunity to witness and contribute to redefining urban landscapes. How to build a sustainable city at scale Summary: Berlin is transforming its historic Tegel aerodrome into a sustainable city, aiming to be a blueprint for sustainable urban development at a large scale. The €8.6 billion project, known as Berlin TXL, will accommodate startups, a university campus, and housing for 10,000 residents with easy access to all necessary amenities. The city's goal is to build with zero energy consumption, zero carbon emissions, and zero waste. It's embracing the use of locally-sourced lumber for construction, aiming for energy-efficient building, and exploring renewable energy sources. Technologies like AI and sensors will be implemented for efficient mobility, water management, and climate resilience. While demonstrating sustainability, the project also strives to respect privacy by using open-source codes and providing transparency to its residents.
