“These attributes potentially improve the scalability of ketamine use in the community, due to reduced need for in-clinic monitoring, and would also reduce costs associated with clinic visits.” Writer Anuradha Varanasi recently reported on the findings of a clinical trial testing ketamine tablets as a treatment for treatment-resistant depression. Varanasi notes: “The team observed that while 71% of the patients in the placebo group experienced a relapse of a depressive episode, in the group of patients who took 180 mg of ketamine tablets as prescribed, only 43% of patients reported a relapse.” To learn more about whether Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) treatment would be a good fit for you, please visit: https://bit.ly/3Laycpw

Pleased to see this ground-breaking feasibility study using psychosocial advice, depathologization and shared decision making (a psychologically sophisticated 'watchful waiting' approach) and controlling for the patients' expectations. 👍 The WW intervention was shown to be an effective first line treatment for non-suicidal patients with depressive symptoms - 64.5 % of patients did not require pharmaco- or psychotherapy at three-month follow-up. 👍 It was interesting to note that expectation of pharmacotherapy was the main driver of future medication use (most suspected that they were depressed & a quarter expected to receive antidepressant medication) which emphasises the importance of addressing patient expectations /depathologization. https://lnkd.in/g4zHNZdn

Chronic pain is a serious condition that causes numerous impairments in a person's life, in addition to significant economic costs. As an expert for chronic pain being trained in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy, I had a closer look at the epidemiological data in Germany finding that around 15% of the general population is affected. I want to point out the need for specialized centers with a multimodal pain-targeting path to support patients with chronic pain. Read my paper that has just been published with the support of ETUDE: A Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action Innovative Training Network (No 956673)! #chronicpain #psychosomatic #somatoform #persistentpain #etude

Does hyperbaric oxygen therapy work for depression? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy can be extremely beneficial for patients with depression that need additional treatment beyond medication and psychotherapy. A recent study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of treating patients with depression with a combination of HBOT and escitalopram, a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI) medication commonly used to treat depression and generalized anxiety disorder. The study found that the treatment was effective after four to six weeks in significantly improving patients’ cognitive function. Another study looked into the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on psychological issues like depression and anxiety as well as nerve function after incomplete spinal cord injury (ISCI). After eight weeks of treatment, results showed that HBOT effectively treated depression and anxiety in patients at a similar level to psychotherapy, and that it significantly improved nerve function and ability to do daily activities. The objectives of the following study were: (1) to identify clinical and demographic predictors of long acting injectable (LAI) #antipsychotic discontinuation during the first year of treatment in patients suffering from #psychotic disorders; (2) to investigate potential differences in the time of discontinuation between the LAI compounds (haloperidol, zuclopenthixol, risperidone, paliperidone, aripiprazole, olanzapine); (3) to evaluate other clinical factors (including tolerability) possibly associated with the prescription of a specific LAI antipsychotic. 📝 High Rate of Discontinuation during Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotic Treatment in Patients with Psychotic Disorders—Auxilia, et al. ✨ Compelling additional data documenting the efficacy of evenamide in our phase II/III study in poorly responding schizophrenia patients🔬 💊 A further analysis of our study reveals significant multi-domain benefits in PANSS and Clinical Global Impression of Change. Also, the benefit of the efficacy measures increased over time, suggesting larger and enduring patient effects to be expected during long-term treatment. "These findings, along with those noted in study 014/015, where patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia treated with evenamide for one year experienced progressive, sustained and long-lasting clinically significant benefits, further highlight the growing importance of glutamate modulation for the development of novel treatments for patients with schizophrenia", explained our Chief Medical Officer, Ravi Anand. Hello everyone! I'm excited to share a recent article in The Atlantic about my work with a patient dealing with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) using clinical hypnosis. You can find the article here: https://lnkd.in/euPgEvB6 Additionally, I want to emphasize that a similar approach is also extremely effective with patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Please share this with friends and family who suffer from IBS or IBD. It is important for people to know that there are treatments available that work and have research support. #Hypnosis #Health #IBS #IBD #Hypnotherapy #WISERDC

This is an important feasibility study which controlled for patient expectations👍 It has clearly shown the effectiveness of watchful waiting coupled with psychosocial advice, depathologization and shared decision making: 🔷 64.5 % of patients did not need pharmaco- or psychotherapy at 3 month follow-up. 🔷 Expectations on referral (most thought that they were depressed & 1/4 expected to receive antidepressant medication) determined whether they received pharmacotherapy, not severity of symptoms... This has major implications for the way in which we should be providing #mentalhealth services
