Although there is no WiFi in the coastal redwood grove, I have never felt more connected. Big Sur always shares the ancient wisdom of the forest. Some lessons I learned in Big Sur on the summer solstice this past Friday on the drive back from MCCA (Minority Corporate Counsel Association) to San Diego: 🌲 Redwoods have been around for about 240 million years (300,000 for humans). And coastal redwoods can live 2k+ years. Their species is resilient and strong because they take care of each other AND other species to create diversity all around. 🔥 Fire is not as big a threat to coastal redwoods as you might think. Redwood seeds need fire to activate and grow. When a forest burns out and hollows a redwood (like the one in this pic) the tree continues to thrive and grow around the burn. 🌳 When a tree is sick or in crisis, the nearby “mother trees” send nutrients and electrical currents out to the forest to protect the ailing tree and others nearby. What a great lesson to our cyber community for information sharing and rallying around each during difficult times. 🙏 Grateful to MCCA and Google for hosting a great event with the inspiration of redwoods surrounding our conversations on technology and the law. On a much smaller scale, mushrooms do the same to communicate and help each other thrive. So fascinating!!!!

These trees are magical and wondrous and healing in so many ways …

We should learn from the trees and do a better job of supporting each other! When a tree is sick or in crisis, the nearby “mother trees” send nutrients and electrical currents out to the forest to protect the ailing tree and others nearby. What a great lesson to our cyber community for information sharing and rallying around each during difficult times.

Justine, Love your insightful thoughts and observations about the Coastal Redwoods teaching us about the important law of Reciprocity that says; "All that we give to the lives of others, comes back into our own".
