Homeless children face numerous obstacles in receiving an education, but are entitled to it all the same. Jimmy Pawola of the Kane County ROE Equal Chance Program led discussions and presentations with district administrators today regarding their responsibilities under the McKinney-Vento Act, how school district staff can identify and assist homeless students, and what resources and systems are in place to help them do so.

While it’s not yet required in Colorado, schools can ask nonprofits like the Laboratory to Combat Human Trafficking to facilitate an anti-trafficking training for administrators and staff members. In 2022, our team trained 184 teachers and school staff throughout Colorado. LCHT’s training sessions for educators are specifically designed to address the landscape of this issue in Colorado and how human trafficking might present itself in a school setting. They equip educators to consider the complex issues that put students at risk, including generational trauma, unstable living situations, and emotional vulnerability. With more than 55,000 teachers across the state of Colorado supporting more than 883,000 students, we still have a long way to go (Source: Colorado Dept. of Education). Mandatory prevention training statewide could create a new base of knowledge in Colorado schools and help end this human rights abuse in our communities. Dive into this issue on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eyNu5ek2 #EndTraffickingColorado #EndExploitation #HumanTraffickingAwareness #ColoradoNonprofit #AntiTraffickingTraining #BackToSchool #Education #EdColo

AB 912 – SAFE (Strategic Anti-Violence Funding Efforts) Act SUMMARY The SAFE Act reinvests cost savings from prison closures into programs that reduce violence, provide diversion opportunities, and deliver critical community supports including mental health, education, and vocational services. Creating safe spaces during peak times of violence has also played a crucial role in prevention and diversion. For example, the Summer Night Lights, a component of the Gang Reduction & Youth Development (GRYD) Comprehensive Strategy in Los Angeles, provides extended programming, sports leagues, and spaces for recreation, employment opportunities, and access to local resources. As shown with the success of GRYD’s Summer Night Lights, recreation and healthbased opportunities are an essential part of reinvesting in communities impacted by violence.

America’s Safe Money Retirement Coach. Guiding families with values-based wealth management wisdom to help achieve a secure financial future.
Not all superheroes wear capes! About one in four families with children in the U.S. have a special needs child. Currently, there are about 6.6 million special needs children in American public schools, making up approximately 13 percent of the school population. Whether it’s physical, cognitive or mental needs their parents work to get through today and plan for the future. The struggle of the parent mirrors the struggles of the child. Virtues such as compassion, humility, confidence, patience, joy and empathy are learned, needed and also rewarding. Each parent is different but those I have spoken to have all said a few common thing- they feel alone, the financial impact is hard and the concern for their child’s future keeps them awake at night. Another consistent message was that finding and engaging with other families in the same situations help and making sure no matter what, you find time for yourself. #advocacy #mentalwellness #FamilyFirst #specialneeds If you have advice or an experience to share please do so in the comments below. 🙏🙏🙏

We help abandoned children for several reasons: 1. Basic human needs: They require food, shelter, and healthcare to survive and thrive. 2. Emotional support: Abandoned children often experience trauma and need love, care, and psychological support to heal. 3. Future prospects: Education and guidance can help them build a better future and break the cycle of abandonment. 4. Social responsibility: As a society, we have a moral obligation to protect and care for vulnerable children. 5. Empathy and compassion: We recognize their suffering and want to make a positive impact on their lives. 6. Personal growth: Helping others, especially children, can bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment to our own lives. 7. Building a better society: By supporting abandoned children, we contribute to creating a more compassionate and equitable community for all. Helping abandoned children is a selfless act that can have a profound impact on their lives and our own.
