By investing in a Kaplan All Access License, #collegesanduniversities can provide all of their students with access to Kaplan’s industry-leading #testprep for admissions exams, licensure, credentialing programs, and workforce readiness programs with zero out of pocket costs for students, helping them to reach their career goals. This can potentially save a school’s students hundreds of thousands of dollars, cumulatively. Exams that students can prepare for with Kaplan free-of-cost include the GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX-RN, USMLE, Uniform Bar Exam and Certified Financial Planner, among many others. "With a future-focused bent, a purposeful movement, and a true learning and growth mindset, they are not waiting but leading the way into the future by creating it now," EdTech Digest said about its awardees. The roster of Kaplan’s All Access License partners includes some of the country’s most dynamic historically black colleges and universities, including Xavier University of Louisiana, Howard University, Delaware State University, and Spelman College. Cleveland State University is also a partner and recently expanded its license to alumni because of the success it’s had with current students. Extracurricular activities (ECs) are so important in showcasing talents, interests, and commitments beyond academics. With another school year underway, now is the perfect time for juniors to evaluate their current extracurricular portfolio and make plans to further develop it during this critical year. 📝 Remember that for some, spending a ton of time with school-based ECs isn't realistic. When looking for ways to empower students who may not have an easy path to traditional ECs, remember that ECs can be creative and free or low cost — stuff like community service, free online courses or self-directed research or projects. Here are some tips on how we can encourage students to make the most of ECs for their college applications: 📋 Start a running list of extracurriculars and update it regularly. This helps students keep track of their activities and commit more time to ones they’re passionate about. ❤️ 💼 Explore leadership roles in existing ECs. Taking on leadership positions demonstrates responsibility, commitment, and other qualities prized by college admissions teams. 🎓 🏅 Research new school or community ECs to join based on interests/goals. Getting involved junior year still allows enough time to demonstrate meaningful engagement. 🎯 Set semester and year-end EC goals and re-evaluate periodically. This promotes accountability and intentionality. 💪 👩🏫 Highlight areas for growth and enrichment based on academic interests. Students should pursue ECs that support - not distract from - target fields of study. 🎒 💎 Quality over quantity. Congratulations to Chief Doreen Arrowmaker, MBA, MGM and the community of Gameti on 6 high school graduates. This after a successful 2023 year where there were 8 graduates. This is a dramatic turnaround for the community. There are a number of takeaways from this remarkable achievement: - Leadership starts at the top and this is clearly shown by Chief Arrowmaker who truly believes in education. She has two masters degrees herself - Technology can be utilized particularly in remote northern locations. Much of the coursework is delivered virtually. - It takes a community to succeed. There were a number of parties that came together to make this a success story including the territorial government (GNWT), parents, school administrators, students, etc. - Grit and determination is key. Students have had to roll up their sleeves and own the process. Three of the potential graduates are mothers. Having to balance personal responsibiiities with their academic pursuits. Truly a remarkable story. Celebrating 40 Years of Learning Beyond the Classroom! Today marks a significant milestone for me as I reflect on the 40th anniversary of leaving school at the tender age of 15 3/4. Back in the '80s, January was the month to gear up for exams slated for April. However, my excitement wasn't about acing exams; it was the anticipation of diving into the world of work within my dad's business. Academia never quite resonated with me, and I wasn't the textbook definition of an academic achiever. What fueled my passion was the prospect of learning a trade hands-on, embracing the practical side of life. Fast forward to today, that same hunger and excitement for what lies ahead still burn brightly within me. The journey has been a testament to the power of giving youth a chance beyond the confines of traditional education. Academic success is not the sole measure of one's potential, and my story stands as living proof. In the dynamic world we navigate, skills, passion, and a willingness to learn can be formidable assets. As I embark on another year, I carry with me the invaluable lessons from decades of real-world experience. The message is clear: always give the next generation the chance to discover their unique path.
