In the latest issue of Kaplan's Bold Learning newsletter: Generative AI (GenAI) may be a game-changing tool poised to transform formative assessment, writes James Mansbridge, head of #digitallearning and #artificialintelligence, Kaplan UK. "GenAI can generate detailed, meaningful feedback tailored to each student’s responses. With GenAI, we can write prompts that provide a model question and answer, and specific feedback. GenAI will highlight strengths, pinpoint weaknesses, provide tips for improvements, offer encouragement, and suggest supplemental resources or exercises tailored to the student's specific needs." And: A new Student Voice flash survey by Inside Higher Ed and Generation Lab offers insight into college students' perspectives on the value and affordability of #highereducation in the face of escalating tuition costs and colleges increasingly closing under the financial strain. Generative AI is a fascinating opportunity and challenge for higher ed. But what exactly are those opportunities and challenges❓ Join me for a new episode of #DRUIDTalks on January 31st, where my good friend Bryant Richards, the pioneering mind behind Nichols College's Centre for Intelligent Process Automation (#CIPA), sits with me to discuss #ai, conversational AI, #GenAI and automation in higher education. Bryant launched the first Intelligent Automation Center of Excellence, applied research and training led by students with purpose of ensuring accessibility and participation for emerging technologies. I am very proud to say Bryant and the students use my book as their course reference guide. In this insightful discussion, Bryant Richards shares his extensive knowledge and his vision for integrating #intelligentautomation into #highereducation. Discover the inner workings and gain valuable insights into the future of #RPA and #generativeAI in academia, forging new paths for students and educators alike. ✅Subscribe to be the first to watch it here: https://druidai.com/talks #ConversationalAI #AI #intelligentautomation #ad #RPA #GenAI #artificialintelligence

Passionate about skills development and authentic assessment in education. We learn by making mistakes. Let's make our mistakes, reflect, develop & succeed. PebblePad: helping universities transform learning experiences.
AI - friend or foe within higher education? So much noise around these tools. Sometimes it feels as though, as with everything else, responses to AI have to be polarised. Of course, 'the answer' is probably the highly unfashionable 'middle ground'... We think and talk about AI at PebblePad - The Learning Journey Platform. I think we would err on the side of friend (isn't that always the best side to err on?) And I find value in this quote: “AI is best at accomplishing tasks that are standardized, routine, and repetitive... but there are many more business problems that it cannot figure out, however much you train it. It’s the uniquely human skills of creativity, lateral thinking, and connecting the dots that are needed to do that.” (Terence Tse) PebblePad's reflective model of learning helps student to understand and develop these skills - and many more. As universities think about graduate attributes and future readiness amongst their student cohorts, PebblePad provides both a foundation and scaffold for developing the all too human skills that will both harness and unleash the power of AI. Thank you to my colleague Vanessa Knox for sharing this article.

AI tools provide tertiary students opportunities to deeply engage with course material when utilized properly. For example, summarization algorithms help condense content for more efficient review. Sentiment analysis allows for new perspectives when interpreting texts. By collaborating with instructors on appropriate AI applications that enhance learning without removing core challenges, students access these innovations equitably. And through ongoing self-assessment of how AI aids their growth—prioritizing autonomy over expediency—students develop wisdom around integrating technology ethically. With conscientious effort, AI can progress understanding rather than replace it #AIineducation #professionaldevelopment #tertiaryeducation

🎓 Excited to announce that I've completed the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford! Here is a few insights I'd like to share from the experience: 1. Deep Dive into AI: If you're keen on unravelling the mysteries behind AI, dive into deep learning and neural networks, exploring its real-world applications across industries, and even crafting your own business case related to AI, this program is for you. Dive into the nuances, from understanding AI's capabilities and limitations to grappling with the legal, ethical, and moral implications, including the future of work. 2. Intensive Learning Journey: Brace yourself for an intense journey. This isn't a side project—it demands commitment. The blend of self-learning, live lectures, interactive sessions, and assignments strikes the perfect balance, it kept me fully engaged, motivated, and equipped to apply newfound knowledge. 3. Shift in Perspective: My outlook on AI and its potential has undergone quite a transformation. I feel well equipped to leverage AI's power within a business environment. 4. Diverse Perspectives: One of the highlights was the opportunity to collaborate with brilliant minds from diverse backgrounds. From tech wizards at Google to authors pursuing their passion, the experience was enriching and eye-opening. Gratitude all around! 5. AI's Ubiquity: AI's pervasive influence is inevitable, with certain industries—like finance, healthcare, and marketing—leading the charge. Others will follow very closely. One of them is Supply Chain. And it will make a massive difference in how we operate. We have to be ready. We have to actively get ready. 6. Addressing Challenges: Despite its potential, AI isn't without its hurdles. Privacy concerns, replication of outcomes, possibility of propagating bias as well as ethical dilemmas demand careful consideration and robust governance for successful implementation. Many more thoughts to share, I feel like I need to do a podcast or something:) 🌟 Huge thanks to my professors and tutors Matthias Holweg, Peter Morgan, Sisanda Uoane, Mohau S, fellow students for making this journey a great one. If you are considering a similar programme and would like to learn more about my experience, feel free to reach out! The technology is advancing rapidly—are we ready to embrace its possibilities? #AI #AIforbusiness #ML #AIinSC #DL #LLM

Just had a flashing thoughts on AI deployment strategy for schools (or school groups) and quickly drafted out a 5-stage plan on my writing pad (before this thought went away). Obviously, this is just a rough thought-work and it will need some twitching, it is growingly apparent that as the utilization of Generative AI tools become more ubiquitous among educators, the industry have involuntarily enter a chaotic version of stage 1. Now it will be up to the leaders of the industry to act quickly and smartly, on creating a winning AI deployment strategy that will sustain growth and endure the inevitable changes in education. #aiineducation #generativeai #schooloperation #aiapplications

There are so many products out there that allow students to snap a screenshot and get the correct answer like this - this is not only for multiple choice questions. To my fellow educators: If you haven't yet tested how AI handles your exams, I encourage you to try - you might be surprised by the results. Simply use prompts like "give me the answer to this question and explain it" or "write the answer to this short answer question in three different ways." GenAI poses significant challenges for learning assessment. I plan to conduct all quizzes in future semesters in-class using paper and pencil and also need to think more innovative ways to create assignments. Check out this nice Reddit discussion: "Students are cheating with AI because you haven't updated your assignments to align with the realities of the AI age." https://lnkd.in/g_9tACFC #genai #assessment #teaching #education
