This week, we shared high-level findings about full benefit dual eligible long-stay nursing facility residents. Here are highlights: 1. The large majority of long-stay nursing facility residents are dual eligible for #Medicare and #Medicaid, but solutions for Medicare-Medicaid integration and improving the experience of nursing facility residents rarely intersect. 2. All Special Needs Plans can provide more robust nurse practitioner-led care management support for long-stay nursing facility residents. However, D-SNPs are unique in their requirements to integrate and coordinate Medicare and Medicaid benefits for residents, while providing states with greater opportunity to oversee and influence quality of care. However, most dual eligible long-stay residents are not enrolled in a D-SNP. 3. Dual eligible individuals in long-stay nursing facilities have higher rates of potentially avoidable hospitalizations, compared to dual eligible individuals in the community. 4. Approximately half of dual eligible long-stay nursing facility residents will have a Skilled Nursing Facility stay within the year.
